It's still cheaper than renting their DVRs or cable boxes. I'm on FIOS and the only hardware I'm renting from them is three cablecards. I had been paying $12 per month just for one of their HD boxes, so $5 isn't all that bad.

FIOS is the best of all the cable companies. Of course that means they are slightly above terrible.

All cable TV providers aren't as bad as people make them out to be. I've received nothing but excellent service from Verizon here in Howard Co., MD. The service techs are topnotch and I've always gotten good service from the CSRs. There's a good reason why you never see Verizon in the top 10 of poor service providers, unlike Comcast, Carter, Time Warner, DirecTV, etc.

It's a YMMV matter. Some have no problems. Some have many. Some fall somewhere in between.

When people have a good experience with their cable co they don't run to this forum to report, have a bad experience, they do run to this forum.
For me Comcast in Hartford CT is great !!, and Cox for my kids is also great, explain the problem and they solve it, or give you a 2 to 3 hour window for a tech to come out.
