The MASH episode "Perchance to Dream" always stuck in my head as a classic, but maybe not popular episode.

All In the Family - Sammy Davis Jr. visits
Taxi - Jim takes his driver's test
Night Court - Have to close a bunch of cases so Dan could go on vacation (slow talker episode)
Friends - Ross and Rachel fight while the rest of the Friends are locked in the bedroom (I was on a break!)
St. Elsewhere - finale...Dr. Westphal's autistic son dreamed up the whole thing
LA Law - Rosiland falls down the elevator shaft
Lost - Walkabout
MASH - Supply line is cut (a personal favorite)
Seinfeld - Too many to mention (Chinese Rest, Keith Hernandez (second spitter))
Family Guy - "Shapoopie song and dance number, Road to Berlin"
South Park - "Christmas in Canada? (personal favorite), Episode where the boys go to Iraq.

If I thought about this long enough, I could come up with dozens of these.

The Contest is the best episode, but, there are so many other great ones that to JUST cite that one would be a disservice to the series.

Oh, that one always sticks with me...so sad and scary... heartbreaking...

What about the MASH episode where they create the imaginary officer "Tuttle?" that is an all-time classic!

Also "Merry Christmas, Mrs. Moskowitz" ep of Frasier-where Frasier and Niles pretend to be Jewish-has been discussed in the Frasier thread...waaay too funny-whenever I watch it I go into spasms....the "fake" kosher wine they make-OMG!

Leave It to Beaver, "Beaver and Chuey". Eddie teaches Beaver a phrase to use with his new Spanish friend, and he ends up telling him he has a face like a pig.

That's definitely a classic!

I also put 'The Hamptons' in the same class. So many great lines and situations.

Those are my two all-time fav Seinfeld episodes.

You had a great list and I was in full agreement until I got to this one. For me, this was a "jumps the shark" moment.

ST:TNG: Relics and Yesterday's Enterprise

Here's one most people may not have seen: It's Your Move, which starred a teenage Jason Bateman, and was made by the same crew that came up with Married With Children. There were two episodes that were called "Dregs of Humanity".

Barney Miller: the one with the Atom Bomb.

I would add the Bris episode as one of my all time favorites. This also had the pigman.

Honeymooners - the one mentioned above is great but the episode where Alice's mother comes and ruins the end of the play Ralph was going to see is my all time favorite.

I loved that moment, it doesn't work as a standalone for me because you wouldn't have the needed disdain for her to really enjoy the moment

MASH: Life Time - The surgeons race against time to save a soldier with lacerated aorta.
This episode includes a clock on-screen and has no laugh track.

for some reason, my favorite st:tng was always "time's arrow", primarily due to jerry hardin's performance as samuel clemmons. many choose the finale, "all good things".

from wikipedia, an interesting note:

Totally agree. The Shaky Mohl There are just too many. Bizarro Jerry, the episode where Elaine sneezes in the Pasta Primavera and George checks out eh cleavage. George is dead. Fetivus.

Another classic Honeymooners. Ralph goes on the game show. Can't get Swannee River, and he "brives a dus"

Very true. Some classic TV moments though happened to be jump the shark moments in some respects. We remember them, so that makes them classics.

I was thinking the episode that prompted the question, not the episode(s) that answered the question.
