SNL - Donald Trump - 11/6/2015

Man that was a complete suck fest. I wasn't expecting it to be that great, but it was horrible and Trump was barely in any sketches. Makes me wonder how much Trump paid to get the hosting spot.

The only things that were somewhat funny were Larry Davis (is he going to be a regular guest?), the Drake spoof video and the beginning of the Startracks sketch. Everything else was awful. I will admit though that porn stars for Trump was pretty funny (usually is).

And I still don't get Sia.

You gotta figure that Lorne figured that they'd take the ratings hype no matter what.

I thought the White House 2018 sketch had its moments ("You're doing great, Omarosa," "The American People are just so tired of winning!")
Of course Larry David is comedy gold! I loved how he came out for the good-nights!
The Drake parody was epic-and Trump's dancing was hilarious!
I have read that you can tell how a host was to work with by the way the cast treats them during the good-nights. I didn't see anyone hug Trump and only Pete Davidson was talking to him and he looked so nervous-like he was scared to death. I bet he was a YYYYYYUUUUGE pain in the A$$!

they phoned most of the show in, and still won big. really big. the ratings were yooooooge.

bernie, drake, drunk uncle, and porn stars were my favorites, with an honorable mention to kenan/kenyan.

exactly, mr. lipowitz is anything but business stupid, he milked the publicity for all it was worth, highest ratings in years.

Yes, but anyone who tuned in who doesn't normally watch SNL is going to pretty much never watch again based on last night's episode. They blew an opportunity to gain more regular viewers which is "business stupid".

until they book the next controversial guest host directly from the headlines.

lorne knows anyone tuning in to see trump (or any one guest host) is unlikely to become a regular viewer, his best bet is to remain current and fresh each week, milking publicity whenever possible (like the weekly cold open). the show's been on 40 years, everyone who wants to watch already knows where to find snl.

The open was pretty bad and it downhill from there.

It was an average episode. A few funny spots & some dismal failures. I assume Trump wasn't used more because some stations may end up having to give equal time to the other Republican candidates.

Sia certainly developed an interesting persona for this appearance. Love the white/black hair.

He was in a fair number of sketches. For the ones he was in where he wasn't playing himself, they could have done things better.

I liked the idea of Trump as skeevy music "manager" type of person. Just didn't quite like the way they implemented it in the Startracks sketch.

The live tweeting was kind of dumb. If they had made it like the way Trump really did it during the democratic debate, maybe they could have made it a bit better. (i.e. it was him mostly just re-tweeting a bunch of praise of Trump). They could have done a play on that.

For the laser hard player, I think maybe it would have been funnier if he was really awesome at it? I dunno.

His dancing in the Drake thing was kinda funny.

Weekend Update is lame. But Drunk Uncle is kinda funny. Doesn't want to talk about Ben Carson because he was "right over there.. Shhhhh!!" .. lolz

May have been the worst episode in several years. Just really not funny.

So apparently, the scripted bit in the monologue with Larry David yelling "Trump's a racist" because "I heard if I did that, they’d give me $5,000" was a reference to an actual "bounty" that the group Deport Racism offered to anyone in the audience who would do it.

DR is making good and giving Larry the $5K.

Awesome. As you say, it was clearly scripted. I just wonder if Trump knew about the bounty. That what David said was actually really true.

I'm sure he did. He strikes me as the type who has a google alert set up for his own name.

Certainly possible. And he's certainly the kind of guy that doesn't even care. I mean, he actually kind of feeds off of this sort of controversy, as do his supporters. It actually helps his numbers.

Really bad show. The open was okay, but the Trump stuff was just awful. Of course that is all colored by my hatred of the guy.

keith olbermann gave an interesting look into his personal encounters with trump during an interview last friday night on bill maher (and it's not what you might think).

the washington post reported today on the interview, and how keith's revelations compare with trump's public persona.

This was not good. Though I do enjoy Sia's music.

Yeah I noticed that almost everybody avoided him in the shots I could see. Even for his farewell words it looked like everybody was giving him distance. It was also amusing in this instance that they had more time to roll the credits than typical.

Neither Darrel Hammond nor Martin Short were there for the closing either and Trump didn't thank them. I also noticed that Martin Short and Trump were never in the same scenes in Drake video. I don't know if that means anything or not.

Short was only involved in a pre-taped piece, so he probably wasn't even in the studio during the broadcast.

Hammond is the announcer for the show, having replaced Don Pardo. He doesn't typically show up onstage for the good nights, even if he does a cameo in the show.

Larry David was standing center stage with Trump at the end, and basically never looked at him, and turned to greet people on the side away from Trump.

Martin Short and Steve Martin had a show in Rhode Island last night (Steve Martin tweeted a picture from there yesterday). Short probably just showed up briefly earlier in the week to record his bit for the Drake video.

It's pretty simple. She did the hair thing to portray a theme on an album a few years back. She either felt more comfortable or just figured it made her unique (depending on the interview), so she stuck with it.

Her songs were interesting. One a celebration of being alive; the other a declaration that she didn't want to die.

Yesterday, I learned both of those songs had originally been written for Adele.
