Frasier: Premiered twenty years ago tonight

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/0...n_3930836.html
Quote:
"Frasier" premiered 20 years ago on September 16, 1993.

The NBC comedy starring Kelsey Grammer as radio therapist Frasier Crane ran for 11 seasons, ending in 2004. The Frasier character first appeared in a 1984 episode of "Cheers," and became a regular at the bar, before he got his own spinoff.

"Frasier" also starred David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves, Peri Gilpin and John Mahoney
One of my favorite ever sitcoms. Incredibly well-written, great casting, ensemble chemistry for the ages. Part of the reason we now have a Jack Russell.

For many years after it ended, my wife & I would watch one or two eps a night in bed. Until we knew them by heart. It's why they make TiVos.

And the writers really were in it for the long game. There were story lines, like Niles infatuation with Daphne, that took ten years to come to fruit. And the delivery guy who rolled out Martin's EZ-chair in the final episode? The same guy who rolled it in, in the pilot.

I think I'll have some tossed salad and scrambled eggs in Frasier's honor

Great show. I think Kelsey Grammer still holds the record for playing the same character in a live action sitcom(s) the longest.

I watched it that night and kept watching until the end. I still watch occasionally on Netflix. While I loved the show for the most part, I still think it suffered a bit when Niles and Daphne finally got together.

Such a great show! Niles was my fav character. One of my fav episodes was with Niles and the 'flour baby'. He was so hilarious.

Never seen a complete episode.

Added to my queue. (this is one of the reasons I love this forum so much - always able to find new shows to watch)

I'm not sure when I started watching Frasier, but it was a favorite TV show of mine. I don't think I've seen a single episode since it ended. I wonder if the show is on Netflix streaming?

On both Netflix AND Amazon prime streaming

So no excuses!

Gack! Really?

This is a series that I have literally watched four or five times.

And it's funny, I wasn't all that excited by when it aired, although I watched it. But then I got a DVR and seriously, just let that thing record over and over and over again.

+1
When I scan around for shows at night, if I stumble onto Frasier, it always works.
It is a show that continually bears repeated watching and remains funny each time.

Frasier is shown on one of the networks most nights I think. I tune in from time to time. Unfortunately, for me, for some reason this isn't one of those shows that work, once you've seen it. But I did love it when it was on first run.

I was a Cheers fan and didn't bother with Frasier at first, I thought it would be lame. Then I checked it out midway through the first season. Fantastic show. I can rewatch Frasier now and still laugh. I rewatch Cheers and wonder why I thought it was so funny back then.

When I first heard the premise of Frasier, moving him to Seattle (at the time I thought Fraiser was such an upper crust NE type guy that Seattle seemed like a weird place for him to have been from), and giving him a radio show and having a crusty old dad, it just seemed too far a reach. I actually thought a show about him and Lilith would have worked better. Lilith was such a great character! Indeed when I saw the pilot, I didn't really like it all that much. But I kept watching and the show got better.

Thinking more about Lilith....she was actually what Sheldon on TBBT is, but 25 years too early. I could see Lilith being Amy Farrah Fowler when she was a younger.

The amazing thing about Frasier is that is ran just as long as Cheers. Considering the fact that Cheers was one of the most successful sitcoms of all time, that's pretty crazy. And think about how lucky Kelsey was to be cast in that role. He went right from one show to the next, and made a gazillion bucks in the process.

BA HA HA HA!

The episode where they go to the ski lodge and everyone hooks up except Frasier..."I'm not gay, Guy!" All the doors, the running around...a classic for sure...

It's also 29 years since the character premiered on Cheers. He showed up in the season 3 opening in 1984. I actually remember watching that.

Grammar did 204 Cheers and 263 Frasier episodes as Frasier over 20 years. That probably does count as playing a single live-action sitcom character for the longest. (Soaps have him beat, though. As the World Turns alone had three actresses doing the same character for 50+ years. And The Simpsons has been on since 1990 with the same cast.)
