"Parks and Rec" on (short) hiatus

Heads up...

Since NBC cancelled "Welcome to the Family" and doesn't have/want to burn up another sitcom right now, they're stunt-filling the entire 8 pm hour for the rest of the year.

Parks will be off for the next three Thursdays, then will air back-to-back eps at 8 and 8:30 on Nov. 14 and Nov. 21, then will be off again until January 9 (when it starts airing regularly at 8:30 after Community).

How are they "stunt filling" that time slot?

I have a season pass for 'welcome'. I guess I should just drop it?

Such a move was never announced. Reruns are on Comedy Central, though.

Rumors had it moving to cable when NBC was wishy-washy with it.

While I love community, the Recall Knope thread is getting old. I hope they resolve that quickly when it returns.

Why do the students of Greendale, CO care who's running Pawnee?

I have a question about the most recent episodes. So, spoilers below through Cones of Dunshire.

Spoiler:
Why do they keep saying Leslie is out of a job? City Council was part time so she should still have her Parks job. As recent as the Gin it Up episode Leslie was getting heat for not running her department well because of Donna's tweets. I'm puzzled.

The show is no longer funny. It peaked two seasons ago IMO. The lovely Rashida Jones is leaving the show, and she was an original cast member. Even last week seemed off without her. Rob Lowe is leaving as well.

Given the low ratings, I think NBC should probably cancel 'Parks & Rec' and 'Community' or atleast let them finish off with finales this season. NBC was way too generous with 'The Office' giving renewals year after year, and the salary is great for the remaining cast but some of the cast like Jim/The Office will make money in the movies. Chris Pratt might have the chance to become big also, and Aziz has his standup.

Between MJ Fox show and Sean Hayes show, I don't think either are getting ratings to warrant renewal. The MJ Fox show has his star power and could emulate 'Modern Family' but it would maybe need to move to another night possibly.

I think The Voice to Thu night should be perm given NBC's inability to offer comedies that get the ratings.

I'm watching MJ show mostly because of MJ.. Some of the other cast is good.. but it's not all that funny.

I'm not actually ANYWHERE NEAR as big a Parks & Rec fan like a bunch of you are.. it actually took me quite a while to "get into" it. That doesn't mean it wasn't entertaining.. even in the beginning, it was funnier to me than the MJ show. But it grew on me a lot..

and I now think that even a 'bad' Parks & Rec, losing a few cast members, would still probably be better than most other sitcoms on nowadays. Then again, I'm one of the people who _usually_ sticks it out to the bitter end for a show I watch more than a couple episodes of.. (Though, as I've said before, nowadays I'm actually more apt to drop POPULAR shows since I know they will eventually show up on DVD/streaming. I have a whole ton of CSI seasons "new to me"!!)

Though the other reason I commented was -- I can't decide if Rob Lowe or Mandy Patinkin hates having steady jobs on popular shows more. Lowe left "The West Wing", did two shows that flopped (though I watched both, and the one where he was a senator was actually pretty good.. Doctor Vegas or whatever wasn't very good)... He got a successful gig on "Brothers & Sisters".. left it... got another successful gig on Parks & Rec.. and is leaving again.. Mandy Patinkin left & came back to "Chicago Hope" a couple of times, got "Criminal Minds", which I think was a reasonably big hit in the beginning... left it.. I know he's on Homeland now but I haven't seen it, and he's probably going to leave sometime soon!

These guys should realize when they've got something good and stick with it!!!

It wasn't Rob Lowe's decision to leave P&R. They had to cut some salaries to reduce the budget, and they decided (correctly, IMO) that Ann and Chris were the most expendable characters at this point. They've been struggling to find stuff for Chris and Ann to do, so getting them together and having them move away from Pawnee makes the most sense.

Rob Lowe's character was expendable but not Rashida's-Ann Perkins. She was an original and second listed character.

I mean they are doing the whole, let's find Tom a girl, it could be have been Ann (for the right guy). Instead they went with the whole baby approach for Ann.

I'm sure both were offered salaries but they were very low. Rashida also played Karen F on The Office, so she's being doing the similar role for awhile and might not want to be stuck for supporting television roles only. Probably they figured they could find better opportunities elsewhere.

I wonder who they will add as a new Leslie friend. Maybe Rachel Dratch or Molly Shannon. They can do weird and the show thrives on weird.

I'm not a fan of the Tom character anymore or really Aziz Ansari. They go over the top with him. I wish he was leaving over Rashida. I also don't buy the I'm an Indian American but have nothing to do with my culture. It's not like Mindy Kaling does that much on her show (she always dates guy not of her race), but they showed her brother once. I don't keep up with that show though.

As an Indian American, I don't find Aziz really portrays Indian Americans well in terms of having any connections with people of his own race. Instead they show someone who pretty much forego anything to do with his own race.

I think the Ron Swanson as a character is funny.

Tom is from North Carolina!! He's more interested in Jay Z and Beyonce. Nothing wrong with that. It's like he's a brown Wigger.

I like Ann Perkins and will miss her. But actors chose to leave shows for a variety of the reason. I won't hold it against Rashida Jones for doing so.

It doesn't really matter the show is ending at the end of this season so giving characters an exit is nice.
