Alpha House - on Amazon Instant Video

Premiers on November 15th. The pilot has been available for a few months.

I thought it was one of the best of the Amazon pilots and I'm glad to see they're giving it the greenlight.

I heard on a podcast that the first 3 episodes of this show, and I think the other one was Beta, are free to anyone on Amazon. Those episodes are released on November 15th. Then we get one episode a week of each show, but you must be a Prime member to see those.

It might say that in the linked article, but I did not read it.

I've been looking forward to this show after watching the pilot. but after learning they will only release one episode a week, I'm not as enthusiastic. I like the Netflix model better where all the episodes are released at once. Now I'm not sure when I will watch Alpha House. Releasing one episode a week is too much like broadcast Tv, which this is not.

Arrow alpha house not available

Amazon emailed me that Alpha House would not be available on Tivo. I had
joined Prime to watch Alpha House and had registered my Tivo with Amazon
when I read this. What's the deal?

Alpha House is a Prime streaming title. The TiVo only downloads Amazon content. So the only way to watch it on the TiVo would be to pay for a rental of it. Assuming they even offer it as a rental.

They don't. It lists as a web hot pick on my TiVo. But that does not make sense to me so I am waiting for the DVD in the far future

Alpha House is a winner!

I wonder if they'll keep Mrs. Biggs being only a voice on the speakerphone.

Dig the guests in the 3rd episode:
Spoiler:
Wanda Sykes, Haley-Joel Osmet, and Cynthia Nixon will be back.

I'm smelling something.

Why is this a 3 episode "preview?" Even with Prime.

Lemme guess that the rest of the episodes are going to be $[1-3].99 each on Amazon Prime Instant Video.

It is because they are only releasing one episode per week. So the three episode preview is to try to get you hooked and coming back each week. The whole series is included at no charge for Prime subscribers. If you aren't Prime, the preview is to entice you to subscribe to see the rest.

I wasn't sure if it was him or not, I had to wait for the credits, but I thought Bill Murray was funny at the beginning of the pilot.

I watched the second and third episodes last night. I was cursing Amazon when I remembered they went with the outdated 20th century method of releasing one episode a week. If I remember then I might watch some of the episodes.

Otherwise I probably won't touch it again until they have been all released. Then I can watch them in one sitting. It's less than a half hour for each show so watching the other seven episodes can easily be done in one sitting. Plus it is much more fun watching that way then trying to watch one episode a week.

is this a comedy or is it a drama, like House of Cards?

Comedy.

Or I guess a Dramedy?

But certainly not serious like House of Cards. I really like both shows though. But with House of Cards I watched the first Season over a weekend. That made it more enjoyable to me by watching so much in such a short time.

It's the kind of comedy where you have a grin as you watch but they don't have any ha-ha punchline jokes requiring a laugh track. Mo' bettah.

No suits to tell Gary Trudeau that he needs a wise-cracking cute kid.

Umm, they take time to make.. So doesn't it make sense to release them AS THEY'RE DONE rather than an "outdated ... method" of artificially holding them up to release them all at once? That makes sense when you're releasing something on physical media, instead of releasing ONE episode per DVD..

Watched all three episodes yesterday. at about 25 minutes each, it's easy to do. I like this show. I just hope I remember to keep looking for new episodes.

Sure, but they finished shooting months ago.

These actors don't commit to working 13 weeks out of the year.

They actually only finished shooting approximately two weeks ago (a friend of mine did the costumes).

I'd pefer them holding them all back until completed. I know I'm more likely to get something extra streaming if I watch all the episodes in a short time.

If I just end up watching one episode a week, I won't bother looking at anything else from Amazon. Since I would go straight to the show and turn off the amazon app once the episode is done. If I watch them all in one or two sittings, I'm more likely to browse around at other stuff in between watching some of the episodes.

But I guess either way Amazon is going to get money from me since I get Amazon Prime for the Shipping options, not for the streaming selection.

Costumes? It's set current day and everyone seems to be wearing everyday clothing. Sounds like a pretty easy job to me - except for finding enough material to make a suit for John Goodman. :-)

Now that I think about it, I guess there were costumes (uniforms) in episode 3.

How quickly things change. It use to be you would always have to wait a week for a show and you had to be home to watch it.

...and get off of my yard!

It's been a long time. I started time shifting my TV watching in 1984 with a VCR.

Yup.. Though I'm not sure exactly when I started using my parents' VCR to record Letterman. Though by the early 90s I had *two* VCRs to be able to either record 2 things at once, or record one thing while watching another..

That's why, as huge a fan of Tivo as I am, I really think it's evolutionary and not revolutionary.

4th & 5th episodes up. Entertaining but not something for which I await with baited breath. Multitasking/workout material.

The show a week wouldn't bother me so much if they were recorded/delivered to my TiVo like my other weekly content.
