Once Upon a Time - S3E3 - "Quite a Common Fairy"

We just caught up and watch all the episodes from this season yesterday and I'm still having pretty much fun with this show. Neverland is a nice change of venues.

Peter Pan is shaping up to be an interesting character. Who knows what his real motivations right now are, but it appears he's trying to get Henry to want to stay with him. And Rumple ripping off his shadow is bound to have consequences.

I like the twist that Regina and Robin Hood are the two who are meant to find love together. What an odd couple that could turn out to be!

Mulan being lesbian and falling in love with Sleeping Beauty just seemed a bit too much to me though.

Really? I thought it was pretty obvious last season...

What seemed obvious (unless I really missed something) was that aurora was with prince Phillip. I don't know why Milan thought she had a shot. The whole Milan-aurora thing felt rather contrived to me.

I'm liking the pan character this season.

Rumple's quip about "roast swan" was interesting. Apparently his visions told him her last name, but not her first.

I wonder if Peter is the cause of "our" world getting fairy tales. Fairy tales are children's stories, and the story of Peter Pan has him being the good guy, while Hook is the bad guy. Perhaps he knew our world needed them in order for the "truest believer" to come into being.

There were plenty of shippers stepping back and seeing where the Mulan and Aurora thing was going, but we kept thinking "naw, it's Disney, they'll never go for it" but Jane Espenson really knows how valuable those fans can be, I'm sure she heard it. Honest, it's the same way the Xena and Gabrielle thing worked out, it was there as a wink and a nod in the beginning, then they said "hey, we can run with this"

Meredith over on io9 summed it up just about perfectly.

I agree with her about Espenson. Heck, Jane Espenson should write everything on TV.

I don't know exactly when I noticed it, but sometime during the original run of BtVS I noticed that, except for Whedon himself, the Espenson-penned episodes were my favorites.

And that's been true consistently with whatever show she's writing for, including this one. It's even turned out to be true when I wasn't aware she was even writing for a series. Unlike some, I liked the final season of Battlestar Galactica, but for certain it wasn't as intensely exciting as the miniseries and the first couple of seasons. But there was one particular episode that was spectacular. And as I sat reading the credits at the end, I suddenly called out to my wife, "Hey, guess who wrote this episode!"

With Pan shaping up as the villain du season, I think I can see where this season is going. Pan, Santa, cage match. I see no chance of an evil Santa, but I have been wrong before though.

How about a "Bad Santa"?

PAN hasn't been SHOWN to be powerfully evil, or bad, YET. He has a reputation by almost everybody to be that way, and he really knows a lot, but we haven't been shown anything like that yet. I assume when it comes, it'll be either a big misdirect, or he will be shown to be really very bad indeed.

I am on the side of Pan being all reputation, but needs the 'true believer' in order to get control of the real power on the island.

Shoot, it almost feels like Lost to me, with Locke in the role of 'true believer'.

Oh I think Pan is going to be a big baddie. They are going to show us the soft side of him for awhile and just when we think "oh, he might actually be good", we're going to get the full turnaround.

It seems that Rumple has already said he thinks he'll die fighting this battle, and we all know what he's capable of. If he thinks Pan is going to be bad, I think we're in for a show.
