Big Bang Theory - The Workplace Proximity - OAD 10/17/2013

Kinda surprised there's no thread yet!

Anyway, that was fun. Some classic Sheldon and Howard showing that the new Batman game is probably more important than his marriage!!

I thought it fell kinda flat. Sheldon, as smart as he is, I'm sorry, really can't be that dense.

I do like how Leonard is kinda just sitting back with Penny and watching all the other drama with the "my relationship is working" smug look on his face.

Yep I noticed that last night.

Unlike the bowling alley coordinates from a recent episode I assume this one was a deliberate pi reference.

Sheldon is giving smart people a bad image.
I'm sure that smart people aren't that socially inept.

That is why I believe Sheldon Character has Asperger syndrome (AS).

That is common with Asperger syndrome (AS).

That is a common assumption (which I would agree with, since an Aspie also lives here), but the writers and producers vehemently say that Sheldon does not have AS, and that he's just "Sheldony".

That's always struck me as CYA. It's pretty obvious that he's an Aspie/Autistic type, but I'm sure they deny it to A) cover them from accusations that they "get it wrong"; and B) not limit the comic possibilities.

Either that, or they never intended to depict Aspergers/Autism, but it just happened that Sheldon's character traits happened to be similar to Aspergers/Autism by coincidence.

This. They were portraying an extreme scientist geek. Not an aspergers patient. They've taken traits of people I know (who tend to be highly intelligent but not aspergers people) and exaggerated them for comic effect.

If the writers say he doesn't have it, he doesn't. He is their creation. He does not really exist. So, he is whatever they say he is.

Plus, if they say he has Aspergers, people will get mad because they are making fun of them

I loved it when AFF subjects had the same reaction to her pictures as Sheldon did.

I loved AFF comment "Sheldon's looking up the phallic symbolism of root vegetables in Renaissance paintings"
But when Penny ask AFF how she stops herself from taking Sheldon right then on top of the table Sheldon should have said, 'Penny, you should know that this table lacks the stability and the strength to take such rousing concubinal embrace possible. Sometime I think that all your experience with steroid mutants that you like to bring home is something that you choose to forget."

Writers always tell the truth.

But do you see the difference between saying "he doesn't have it" and saying "Our feeling is that Sheldon's mother never got a diagnosis, so we don't have one" ?

This thread might just be funnier than this particular episode. I didn't hate it or anything, but it wasn't one of the funniest for me.

I did like how they had all 4 guys together for a lot of it - like the old days.

Why would he say that? The table definitely looked structurally sound enough to support that much weight and the subsequent applied forces.
