Intelligence on CBS - Anyone interested?

The show, based on the previews, is the type of show I generally like, but my fear is that, much like Persons of Interest, it will just wind up being another CBS procedural with some sort of twist. I'll give it a shot because of Josh Holloway and hope for the best.

Tonight (Tuesday 1/7/14) at 9 EST.

I am in.

The series seems to be a cross between 'Chuck' and 'John Doe' to me. And I liked both.

I'm in because of the actors...Josh and Marg mainly, but Lance Reddick, too (Broyles from Fringe.)

I would only HOPE it becomes "a procedural" like Person of Interest which has several sub-plots and lots of interesting intrigue

I think (and hope) it's more like a spy drama than a crime drama. That's my fear, is that it's just another CBS crime drama, like 10 other shows they have. I want this to be more like Chuck or even Shield, than CSI or NCIS or even Persons of Interest.

Lost vs. Chuck vs. Jake 2.0

FWIW, I think Person of Interest is one of the better shows currently airing, but I fail to see the comparison with Intelligence other than the technical aspect.

I can tell that you've never really watched Person of Interest if you think it's "just another CBS procedural".

I was originally going to take a pass on Intelligence but the cast has changed my mind for now.

I'm going to pass for now. I like Sawyer and want to see him do well, but the show just seems like a dumbed-down, not as fun Chuck. If I hear good things about it, I will probably pick it up this summer.

There's just too many good shows starting up for the winter/spring season: GoT, Hannibal, The Americans, etc. I don't have any room to add a new one.

I watched about the first 5-6 episodes of Persons until I dropped it for the very reason I described. Sorry, I don't have the time or desire to give something a season or two before it gets "good" From what I saw, despite the twist, it was the same, bad guy does something, the team goes after him/her using whatever the gimmick is and they get him or her at the end. There's a back story which is usually there to suck you in with the feeling that maybe it's something more, but it's not really.

That's my opinion anyway. Obviously you feel different.

I figure this takes up the allotted time I used to give Nikita, so it evens out Assuming that it's any good of course.

I'm not sure that this will be Chuck though, because Chuck was more of a spoof on the Spy genre, while this seems a bit more serious. But we'll see.

FYI, the premiere is on tonight but the series is on Monday's. My guess is they didn't want to go up against the BCS championship game last night.

Except, those back stories in Person of Interest became ongoing arcs and the show just wrapped up a two and half year arc in a spectacular fashion.
It also has well developed characters and has built a substantial mythology as well as having some good action.
And it's not afraid to show the greys of what they are doing.

Hawaii 5-0 is "just another CBS procedural".
Blue Blood devolved into "just another CBS procedural".

Saying Person of Interest is "just another CBS procedural" is like saying The Good Wife is.

+1 Person of Interest is about as far away from a procedural as you can be right now.

And they do all of that on the backbone of a procedural.

I'll agree that it's not "just another cbs procedural" but it is a procedural.

It started that way but tonight's episode for example didn't even have a number. It was all serial.

So then you agree that it's not just a procedural. I'll mark you down in that column. Thanks for voting.

If by procedural we are talking about self contained episodes then it definitely was that. It had longer story arc components but the central core was basically the number of the week. It blended those for awhile but the current story arc is not at all self contained and is serial. It is unknown at this point whether it will stay serial or return to the self contained episodes and become more of a procedural again.

I really liked the premiere of Intelligence although I don't understand exactly how the nerd got away with the implanted female.

It's funny Person Of Interest gets brought up in this thread because by the middle of the show I got the feeling that this was going to be as good as POI once was and I hope they don't mess it up the same way they did POI. Whatever we want to call the style of POI for me at some point it just became to same old show over and over after they got stranded during that super storm murder mystery episode. Perhaps it got good again at some point but I gave up a few episodes after that. Not much point in watching something that is boring you.

Wow. That was bad. I'm as forgiving as anyone for scifi type shows, but it was just dumb with most things.

so, no time for character development, story development or back story

gotcha

Person Of Interest has several plots that span multiple seasons

these plots and the characters within them sometimes end up intertwined in ways you didn't expect

but I guess you don't have time for that
