Chase

Anyone else plan to watch The Chase on the game show network?

Been watching it for ages - well, the UK version!

SP set up. It'll be interesting to see how different it is. The UK show has four rotating Chasers and four contestants whereas the US version has three contestants and one Chaser (Mark "The Beast" Labett).

I tried out to be a contestant -- didn't make it, but they later called me to be a fake contestant for the day they were doing tech rehearsal. I lost out on 190,000 fake dollars -- The Beast was being very competitive, even though it was a completely meaningless exercise on his part -- but I did get hugged by Brooke Burns, so that was something. (And I got a paycheck for nine hours of work as a production assistant, which is more than I would have expected as a real contestant defeated by The Beast.)

I'm curious as to what the losing contestants will get. The whole setup between the UK and the US regarding gamshows is different.

For a start, contestants are transported and accommodated at the expense of the network (most places can be reached in a day by rail or, in extreme cases, airplane) with no time zones to take into consideration. This means that losing contestants have the fun of being entertained, fed and watered without cost, so the experience is what makes it worthwhile.

Second, prizes are NOT taxable, so although the amounts are generally smaller, there are no forms to file or deductions (this applies to lottery winnings too!).

If the contestants are being shipped in from all over the US at their own cost, then consolation amounts are needed to offset these expenses (which I know for sure is true with Jeopardy).

That's what looked interesting to me was the one guy against everybody. And yes they did promote it often and for a long time.

Now they think it's clever to not bother marking repeats as such. I'm getting fed up deleting the same two episodes. Been at least five times now.

Sort it out, GSN. Let Tribune know what's new and what's not!

GSN has always had bad (incomplete) data from Tribune, and from what I understand, the major part of the problem is Tribune not seeing GSN's game show information as being important to add to their database.

Here's an example of what GSN sends to Tribune (couldn't find a current schedule with "The Chase" on it), and they do have episode numbers properly listed, plus "R" for repeats and "N" for episodes that have never aired on GSN before, which should be all Tribune needs.

My cable DVR was giving "original air date" instead of "new" at first so you could tell then original date disappeared. None of my tivo's have cards so don't know what they would get. It looks like Tues night at 9 is the only new episode, and only one not two like premiere night.

As far as I'm concerned, it can die a death any time! It's not a patch on the UK version and that host is just as annoying as all-get-out.

Mark Labbett is much funnier and quick-witted than he's allowed to be on that show. He knows a lot and knows how to have fun with it too. On this version, he's just smug and smarmy.

Yeah, as much as I was looking forward to this I'm no sold after seeing several episodes. The flow sucks, the host is atrociously bad, and I've given up on this.

I have secured tickets for the recording of the UK version - Celebrity Special while I'm in London in less than two weeks.

Should be fun.

Just back from England.

The taping of the Celeb special was a great, eye-opening experience.

By coincidence, the Chaser for this episode was The Beast, and it was really cool to see how it's put together. Bradley Walsh is the consummate professional and was really good with the celebs, crew and audience alike.

They were trying to get us an air date, but never did, except to say it would be 'before Christmas', So I'll just have to keep an eye out for it.
