Played a recording - Tivo switched to SD channel and have no control

I don't know what just happened.

Premiere XL

Was watching a recording of Totally Biased from FX. Midway through the Tivo switched to some local SD channel and I couldn't do a thing. No button presses did anything. About 2 minutes later the Tivo flipped back to live TV on an HD channel I had been watching and i got back control.

what the heck is going on? Anyone ever had something like this happen? I feel like my XL is getting flakier and flakier. And of course the warranty ran out in May. Never buying lifetime again.

Sounds a little like when an EBS alert (or whatever alphabet soup they call them by now) "takes over".

Actually sounds exactly like an EAS alert. Common problem. Search on EAS.

Just another CableCARD/Tuning Adapter fail.

Yeah it did seem like that, honestly. But no alert.

Thanks, I'll search on that. I have Comcast, cablecard. It wasn't an alert it was some local program.

In my experience, EAS tests often behave like this. I still get actual alerts, but either a test or other errant signals put out by the cable company result in tuning to a local SD channel until the EAS test signal terminates.
