Silicon Valley - Pilot - OAD 4/6/14

No thread? I enjoyed the show.

My favorite line was from Kumail Nanjiani-I love him anyway-and he delivered it perfectly-I already deleted the ep, so paraphrasing, but it was about how the men and women divide themselves at the Silicon Valley parties just like at a Chassidic Wedding...

That Erlich dude is deluded-hilarious! I loved his "I know HTML-How To Meet Ladies" t-shirt...and how he told Richard "You see me as a guy who has it all together..." Um, yeah...

"That's a bad doctor in there..."

I will definitely watch for now...several LOL moments for me...what did others think?

Technically I didn't watch it since I don't have HBO, but hypothetically if I had watched it I'd watch it again.

Almost lost me at the beginning, but improved a bit by the end. The acting is pretty poor all the way around, especially the 10% ~partner guy - don't even know his name...

I may check out the next couple to see where this goes.

This.

I almost deleted it a few minutes in, but it got better.

It wasn't bad, but nothing earth-shaking for me. The reviews were mostly glowing, so I had high expectations.

I'll stick around for at least one or two more, see how it develops. I like the lead and a couple of his friends, not sure how much I can take of some of the more grating characters.

Hey, It's Mike Judge. It can only get better.

I did drift about 20 minutes in, but I think it'll work well.

"We're saving the world."

The big flaw? AFAIK, if you work on something while you're employed, you dont' clear rights to it, but the deal may vary. For sure, you have to be sure not use a single bit of product or time from work.

Item: Steve Wozniak showed the Apple 1 first to HP, where he worked. HP had no interest in it.

Yeah! I'm thinking it was Meta. The show's group of heroes have the same make up, except no Oriental Asian guy yet.

The funniest line in the "Making of Silicon Valley" was one of the actors saying Mike Judge is fine except he keeps trying to sound like Butthead for some reason.

Wait'll he does Hank Hill.

I really didn't watch a lot of Beavis & Butthead, but when I think Mike Judge I hear Hank Hill's voice.

I haven't watched the episode yet, but am looking forward to it.

I live in Silicon Valley so a lot of it strikes a chord with me. Some of it upsets me because I'm jealous I missed out on some of the really good opportunities around here.

This show, and seeing GrubHub go public (an idea I had pre-web) is leading me to work on my other great idea.

(I also thought of doing a version of what is Geek Squad.)

Yea it feels uncomfortably close to home. I wonder if they will talk about ageism and a lot of other related stuff. The whole no wall collaboration fad is getting a bit crazy.

What kind of car was that anyways?

Too bad that character will have a short shelf life, since he's exactly like a venture capitalist I have to deal with on a regular basic. Down to the appearance and mannerisms.

Although overall, the show is "meh". I'll give it another week or two.

So are you saying that what they are showing is a realistic representation of the culture in Silicon Valley? I say this because it seems very cartoonish in it's portrayal. I did get a kick out of it though. I thought it was just "ok" but I could see the potential so I'm in for now. Loved the 5 nerds line (and yes, one of them looked like Hurley from Lost).

Commuter Car's Tango T-600.

It's a kit-car Electric Vehicle that's been around for quite some time.

Not popular because last I checked, it was a $100K car.

Checking....

Never mind. $158K car, and you have to do final assembly yourself. That's without drivetrain options.

Wow. I was convinced that scene was done with CGI.

Anyone having an issue setting up a season pass and/or wish list for this? My Roamio doesn't seem to want to cooperate...shows new episodes if I manually look at guide, but won't allow the SP to be set up as there are 'no future airings'

This is caused by a corruption in the guide data. It has happened to me several times. Fortunately, it can be fixed by refreshing the guide data. Go into Settings & Messages -> Help -> Restart or Reset -> Clear Program Information & To Do List. Don't worry. This will not delete your saved shows or Season Passes.

One word of caution. Before doing this, I highly recommend permanently deleting all the shows in your "Recently Deleted" folder. If you don't, they will all be automatically recovered and mixed back in with the shows you haven't watched yet. You will then have to go through and delete them all over again. Trust me, this is VERY annoying. If you use KMTTG, it's really easy to delete stuff from your "Recently Deleted" folder in bulk. Otherwise, you will have to manually delete each show one at a time.
