The Amazing Race - 9/29/13

I almost forgot about the season premiere of TAR as I was wrapped up in Breaking Bad...

Decent first episode, too early for me to really have a favorite team or two or a team or two I "hate". Good to have it back, love this show.

I don't know if there has ever been 2 road blocks.

I thought it was an OK first episode. Not sure I liked the opening at an old Western set. (and why do they ALWAYS have to start in L.A. now? I liked it better when they started in different cities. I'm sure this is a cost thing). Didn't like the hang gliding competition...too generic...I like when they have competitions that are more about the culture of the country or city, which is why I liked the rowing one better.

I think the only team I don't like so far is the two Afghans. They are just annoying, and coming on too strong. The football players seem to be having fun, as are the hippies. Decent eye candy this year (baseball wives and LA Kings ice girls ).

At our AR premiere watching party last night we were explaining to a newbie that rule #1 is to read the clue, and rule #2 is to read the clue again. Because inevitably somebody will take a taxi when the clue said to go on foot and they will get a 30-minute penalty. And mere minutes later...

Yep, happens EVERY season. And in this case, it cost the team a HUGE advantage in the game.

I thought they went out of their way to cast teams with conflict this season. Particularly the two exes. "We can't stand each other so we decided to go on AR together."

I liked the misleading Roadblocks.

Yeah, several examples of teams not reading clues correctly last night.

Not sure who I am rooting for yet but, for selfish reasons, I hope baseball wives and the Hockey Girls stick around for a while.

I did notice that week 2 is going to put them all in bathing suits as opposed to week 10 when those two teams may not be around.

Haven't seen the episode yet, but was reading Phil live-tweet the premiere and he said something to the effect of "You would think after all these years and all these seasons... you would READ THE CLUE in its entirety and not leave until you both understand its meaning."

I'd also try and learn how (in general) to get to LAX from various directions.

It was hard to watch that episode with all the shrieking, and the 'Afghanimals' were the worst.

I noticed three of the four major US team sports were represented. MLB wives, NFL former players, NHL hockey girls. What the NBA couldn't find some corrupt referees to compete?

I could have rooted for them until this stuff started. Maybe they'll tone it down a bit. After about 3 of these, though, I was wishing they would be philiminated.

They genuinely looked like they were having a good time and taking everything in a good way.

Even after the mistake about who should be doing the rowing challenge they still took it in good stride and still looked happy and encouraged. Just have to stop with the "AYAYAYAYA"

I have found that almost all the teams annoy me the first episode. Everyone is super hyper and overexcited to get going.

Oh, chick with (partially) pink hair, you are no Vyxsin.

This was obviously taped a while ago, because Kim's husband is no longer with the Cubs -- he was traded to the Nationals, and then a few days later he went to the Rays.

Decent opening episode with some good eye candy. Agree with others that the Afghanimals were super annoying. And in their initial introduction, they try to claim that they're just as American as anyone? Well then don't identify yourself as being from Afghanistan. Plus the ululating was too much.

Come on, everybody. Have you forgotten already how annoying the endless cries of "Twinnie!" were last year? The Afghani-American boys aren't that bad.

Yet.

One of the pairs of women is composed of two ditzes. I forget which one.

About the team you don't like, I laughed (at the stereotype of course), of these guys mentioning being "crazy" at an airport.

Not just going on AR together, but they said something like (yes, similar to what you said) "We can't stand each other but we still hang out all the time."

if anyone saw 'In A World', then you'll know the baseball wives need a "smoothie". First Amazing Race Canada, and then boom, a new U.S. season. cool

I was never annoyed at the twins.

Me too. The Afghan guys aren't that bad, either. My guess is the producers do a lot of encouraging of the teams to shout and be enthusiastic and to have some sort of trademark that viewers will use to identify them with.

Yeah, like I said, usually everyone annoys me at the start about something... they are all freshly rested and spazzy.

I'm thinking it was taped maybe late last winter? I only say that because Phil is wearing a light jacket and he wouldn't be doing that in SoCal past, say April, would he?

The twins got on my nerves so much I wanted to throw something at the TV every time they said "twinnie".

One can like the twins and dislike the endless cries of "Twinnie" at the same time.

Pretty fitting that Rowan would be rowin'.

The series was renewed on March 27th, applications were closed on April 26th and filming took place June 9th to July 2nd. No idea why Phil would have been wearing a jacket in June.
