I wonder if the early seasons will be high quality up converts.

The DVD rips I have leave a lot to be desired.

Keep in mind that the quality of the animation itself in the earliest years was not as sharp as it became (this is true for quite a few series).

The show didn't switch from SD to HD until sometime in Season 20.

That doesn't mean the original material isn't in HD. Even if rebroadcast in SD, the resolution will be considerably higher than what we all saw in the original broadcasts. Keep in mind that SD actually refers to 720x480, or DVD quality. What we saw on analog cable or OTA was much less than that. SD broadcast digitally provides a much better image than what we used to see.

PSA:
....also the episodes are almost certainly cut for extra commercial time, so you're likely missing a significant quantity (many minutes) of each episode.

Thanks for the reminder. I'm not a Simpson's fan but younger son and daughter are, so I will remind them to tune in.

Don't get FXX but I have seasons 1-9 or so on DVD, so I'm set

But I would have this on in the background a LOT if I got FXX

For some reason Comcast in my area has FXX, but it doesn't have it in HD. I had it in HD, with Comcast, before I moved. But that means that I can actually afford to set this entire marathon to record and have plenty of disk space. Heck, I'd have enough if it were in HD, but at least it's not a concern at all in SD.

But I'm waiting for the ToDo list to schedule the whole thing to see how many I'm going to miss and see if I can finagle a way to get them all.

Why do people want ~5 minutes cut out of each episode?!?!?

I used to archive all of the Simpsons episodes on DVD. I mostly recorded them on a Tivo and transferred them to my PC where I'd author about a dozen episodes on each DVD with menus. I finally gave up after about 450 episodes and I still have them all on DVD. I haven't watched a single one of them since putting them on DVD. In fact, I stopped watching The Simpsons a couple of seasons ago. There's just something weird about an infant that hasn't aged in over 20 years, even if they're only cartoon characters.

I'd be surprised if anything is cut for more commercial time. I'd wager they're all being show in their entirety. Besides, there's enough space in each episode for ample commercial time. They could end up going half-screen on the end credits and using the other half for commercials or previews like a lot of channels do and keep the commercial breaks reserved for paid advertising..

They're showing the original broadcast version and not the syndicated.

Tivo must have a limit regarding how many episodes it can program for a particular show. Mine only shows up to season 9 episode 22 being scheduled even though I have guide data up to season 25 episode 14. Miraculously it doesn't show any conflicts at this point.

One other heads up, in the middle of the marathon it looks like they shoved in the Simpsons Movie on 8/29 at 5pm (Central).

Yeah they said they put the movie in when it came out (between the correct seasons)

I have both the HD and SD channels. I just set the season pass on my Tivo Roamio Plus, for the HD channel, #1 priority, record "everything," keep all episodes, save until I delete.

I'll guesstimate about 50-60% used for this.

eta: Whoops, just noticed R-Plus. Change that to 75% used.

So sad. I don't have FXX HD, just SD.

I'm more excited for Simpson's World than the marathon.

Saw this today, if you don't have time to watch them all. Simpsons Must Watch episodes, complete with Google Calender entry for each episode:
