The Blacklist S01E11 The Good Samaritan (No. 106)

I didn't see a thread on this. I thought it was a very good episode, fun hour of TV. Two story arcs, both interesting and rewarding.

I can't remember if we've seen that guy that Red plastic bagged before or not.

How wrong is it that I was kinda hoping they would show up to the house too late or catch him with the killing blow on that wife beating somnabeach!

Spader has been in some stuff where I didn't think his scene chewing fit in, but in this role, as we've said before, it's just about perfect.

If Red ever exists, and I ever meet him, remind me not to piss him off.

Because that is a man who knows how to do vengeance!

yeah, great episode, plot flowed nicely between both stories.

I knew that we had seen him with Red but couldn't quite remember until I did some Googling.

From Zap2it.

You won't remember Newton Phillips by that name. He's been referred to as "Grey" and seen acting as a sort of butler-like person to Red. Most notably, Grey was the man who interviewed Liz's husband Tom for that fake teaching position. Hmm.

Well, the Bank got off easier than the rest of the bunch. I think Red went "easy" on him because he was hoping to taste his wife's stroganoff dish some day.

I'm going to have to watch that scene again as I thought he was going to kill his mother.

When interrupted with the hammer over the head of the wife beater he shifted to Plan B: Mom, but didn't shift quick enough to outrun a bullet.

I expected the revenge killer to drop his hammer, as ordered, but right on the abuser's face. The Samaritan seemed like a decent enough fellow, in a Dexter sort of way, so I was bummed to see him try to off his mom and get himself killed.

The "Is he a good guy or a bad guy" bit with the husband is tiresome. The while bit of him looking for jobs out of the area and going away for an interview *tomorrow* stretches my disbelief that Agent Keen would be remotely okay with it or not add it to the Bad Guy tally sheet. Hopefully she checks for weird deaths in the driving area of Lincoln, NE while he is out of town.

I'm sure the husband will be a major focal point of an episode if not multiples down the road. It's taking a lot longer to get there than I expected but maybe that will start to unravel in season 2?

Neither could I. I had to google it.

In an otherwise very well done series, this was one of my disappointments. they should have made us care more about Newton Phillips if they were going to reveal him to be the big betrayer.

They did provide what has to be one of my favorite moments of the series. Red douses a guy with gasoline, extracts a confession, puts a lit cigar in his mouth... then exclaims "the suspense is killing me!" and shoots him. James Spader pulled that off perfectly.

Everything about him is tiresome. They should write him out of the series. He provides little if any benefit.

As long as the culmination of those episodes is Red executing his newfound zero-tolerance policy toward people who screw over he or his loved ones, I'm all for it.

He killed Skinny Pete!

He's been in almost every episode. Sort of a butler/errand boy for Red.

I enjoyed Gray's last wish to have it look like an accident.

Not so much with a bag over your head. Another point for Red not screwing around.

I don't think that is really a newfound policy. When he was interogatting the accomplices in his kidnapping, I had just said "you know, Red is really the kind of guy who would have killed all those people.." and then the clip of each of them dead was shown.

I was surprised he left the banker alive...

I think he's going to need the banker. And he also really wants to taste the wife's, ahem, "stroganoff."

Frank Whaley has turned into a very good character actor after having very early success then kind of disappearing for a while. He has also not aged well but that has helped him for the most part.

Except that Jack Bauer doesn't die. Ever.

I think Red would eventually grow tired of the many very well crafted plans that inexplicably failed to kill Bauer and just trick Bauer into working for him.

Oh, is this a Stormtroopers always miss but Redshirts always die anyway scenario?

Spoiler:
Well, actually, he was tortured to death in season 2, but he was revived by the back-up torturer, who he proceeded to kill.

I was hoping after the shooting that the cigar falls out of his mouth into his lap and poof!

I was kind of confused about what was going on with Red's storyline. I mean, I got that he was tracking down people who were responsible for the crazy guy finding and getting hold of him, but it had been so long since the last episode that I couldn't remember who any of the people were or if we had seen them before. And I totally did not recognize the plastic bag guy as his butler.
