Downloading Shows to iPad

I am trying to download some of my son's shows from our Roamio Pro to his iPad for the first time. I queued up about five two-hour shows (America Ninja Warrior) and started the download. The first show downloaded (using the medium quality setting - about 1.2 GB) in roughly 35 minutes at a fairly constant speed. The second show download speed however, slowed to a crawl, so much that I restarted the iPad and tried again. The second show then downloaded as fast as the first show had, but the next show slowed again. This is repeating itself over and over - the download speed always slows way down after working for a single download. Does anyone have a suggestion that might fix this problem, or is this a known problem? The iPad is an iPad Air 2 if that matters. Thanks.

Are you going from the Tivo directly to the Ipad? What I do is down load the shows to my PC, strip the TiVo wrapper and save as mp4. I then up load to my Ipad.
