One More Season: HIMYM renewed for 9th & final season

http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-wat...d-final-season

...and we won't see the mother until next year (I was hoping for a sneak peak at this season's finale)

I can see why they are doing that. They might figure that there is some portion of the audience just hanging round until the mother shows up and then will stop watching. This way they get you to hang on until next season

I'll miss Fringe now that it's gone but I won't miss this one after it's over. It's definitely past its prime.

I suspect this season's finale will return to the train platform from the season premiere. The girl with the yellow umbrella will walk up to Ted (we'll only see her from behind), he'll stand up and say "Hi", and Saget will say "That, kids, is when I met your mother"...Fade to black.

Then, in next season's premiere, we'll actually see her face for the first time, and the final season will deal with their courtship. We know that he's married and their daughter is a baby in 2015, so I wouldn't be surprised if the series finale is Ted's wedding, and the mother will tell him that she's pregnant.

I hope they go back to the kids at the very end to show their reaction, and have it be totally indifferent. "Can we GO now?"

I'll watch the final season, though I've only watched sporadically this season. I'm interested enough to see who they choose to be the mother and hope they flesh out her character, and not have the first time meet in the finale of the show.

No. But they had said we would meet the mother in this season's finale.

I would challenge you to find a quote from the showrunners saying that. We can be frustrated with how they do things, but they have never really promised anything one way or another.

Now, they did say the wedding will happen this season. And we know Ted at least sees the mother at the wedding. So hopefully they come back for season 9, show the meet-cute, and then move forward with the story.

What I want from season 9 is to explore not just how the Mom is perfect for Ted, but how she makes him grow as a person.

Nice. Along those lines I think I'd like a scene in some episode where they cut to the kids, but there's something wildly different about them (like an empty couch or there's someone else into sitting there listening) and Ted keeps talking, oblivious to the change.

I can hear the last line of the show....

"So this is how your mother changed me from a pretentious d-bag to the dad you know today"

At which case the kids smirk and walk away from the camera

Little know fact, the term d-bag actually has its origins in the feminine hygiene product, the d*uche. Whereas we say doosh here in 2030, back then we said dooshay.

Since I threw the TV Guide away (it was paper) that it was quoted in, I would not be able to find it and I will not search for it. I know what I read.

It said that we would meet the mother at the end of this season at the wedding (which they would not acknowledge as Barney and Robin's but hinted as such) and that next year would be about the courtship. Then the show would end. There were other details in that article that have been followed.

Now, other than the mother being met at the beginning of next year, how is that so much different.

too bad they can't do it now, but it would have been awesome if the final episode had turned out to a "eulogy"

the final episode we learn the mother had died to cancer or something and the whole series was Ted sitting with the children after the funeral and telling them the story of how they had met

Why would you think that was little known?

I guess I needed some quotes added to my post to make it more clear I was talking as Future! Ted.

Nope - my fault. I skimmed right over the 2030 in your post.

From the SDCC panel for the show, here's the funniest thing HIMYM has done in a few years.

Finish it already!

That video should probably be labeled as NSFW and potentially offensive due to language.
