Do they ever offer service discounts for new customers?

$15/month or $500 lifetime is a little hard for me to justify for (seemingly) just guide data. Do they ever offer service discounts for new customers? Thanks.

It's more than just guide data, with a subscription, you also get the ability to record.

There are no discounts. I have struggled over the years with the price but it's really the fault of cable companies. If any of them could offer a better product, Tivo might have to respond and lower prices. That hasn't happened yet.

For Lifetime try the prmo code PLSR, may take $100 off.

I just tried that on the website and it didn't take it. I already have a TiVo, but a friend is interested. Is there any reason why I couldn't buy the TiVo myself, getting the $100 discount for multiple lifetime service, and then just transfer the unit to her after it arrives?

That is how I got my current Tivo. My friend never even powered it up, and the Tivo CSR didn't blink when I moved it over.
