Sunday 9/29/13 "Tonight is 'craziest night of TV ever'" according to Yahoo

Right now on the front page of Yahoo for me as a headline "Tonight is 'craziest night of TV ever'". Really?

Text below it reads "More than a dozen shows have season premieres and one of the greatest shows of all time signs of. What to watch, DVR and skip"

It leads to http://tv.yahoo.com/blogs/fall-tv/ho...004607018.html. I looked over the list and don't even care about any of them. Well, maybe I care about Simpsons but I hardly ever watch an ep... maybe an average of a random ep once a every every few months.

I figure a football game will run long and preempt all my animation dominations.

Yup. really

Breaking Bad finale alone is enough to warrant this.

Fortunately, you don't determine what we watch (and I say that with all respect). There are certainly two shows that have dominated TV conversation lately--the series finale of Breaking Bad, and the 3rd season premiere of Homeland. And yeah, add all those others into the mix, and you got a heck of a night.

Because you don't watch either of the two monsters, nor any of the others, doesn't mean the headline is a wild fabrication.

You are missing some great TV.

Right after I posted the above, I clicked over to "What's Alan Watching" for my latest TV news fix, and his lead story...

"Welcome to the most insane night of television that I can ever remember, in what I've dubbed Dramageddon 2013."

Quote:
Welcome to the most insane night of television that I can ever remember, in what I've dubbed Dramageddon 2013.

The night's biggest event, by far, is the series finale of "Breaking Bad," which will be airing from 9 to 10:15. But the same night — often at the same time (especially given that spillover into the 10 o'clock hour) — will be...

* The "Homeland" season 3 premiere (9 p.m., Showtime)
* "The Good Wife" season 5 premiere (9 p.m., give or take a football overrun in your market, CBS)
* The debut of "Masters of Sex" (10 p.m., Showtime)
* The season premieres of "Once Upon a Time" and "Revenge" (8 & 9 p.m., ABC)
* The premiere of "Betrayal" (10 p.m., ABC)
* A new episode of "Boardwalk Empire" (9 p.m., HBO)
* New installments of "Last Tango in Halifax" and "Foyle's War" (8 & 9 p.m., PBS)
* A new episode of "Low Winter Sun" (bumped all the way to 11:15 p.m., due to AMC's desire to put the final "Talking Bad" on immediately after the "Breaking Bad" finale).

And those are just the original dramas. The same night will also feature the premieres of all of FOX's Sunday animated comedies, the beginning of the final season (again) of "Eastbound & Down," the debut of HBO's new "Hello Ladies," the 23rd "Amazing Race" premiere, and more.

I looked at the list and do record most of them except the last four on the list plus the animated shows on Fox except Family Guy. I could also care less about Betrayal. The wife likes Revenge and Once Upon a Time so I'll stick with them. The Good Wife and Homeland definitely top the list of premieres for me with the Breaking Bad finale being at the top spot. I hadn't given much thought to recording Masters of Sex, but the preliminary reviews sound interesting so I may give it a shot.

Heh... fortunate is right. I freely admit that my TV tastes and what I watch are likely not mainstream. I don't watch most of what's on "prime time" network TV on any day of the week. I also don't receive premium channels like HBO, Showtime, etc.

I guess I might be missing some great TV.

I'm glad that my SP for Revolution picked up season 2, ep 1, as I had no idea when it was restarting and it was bizarre (to me) that it aired on a Wednesday, instead of Monday. Been busy so I haven't gotten to it yet...

Breaking Bad and Simpsons are the only two on the list that I would watch.

Not exactly the craziest night because of the shows, but the craziest because we are losing Breaking Bad.

I think at one point I had 4 tuners recording at once last night out of five on my Genie. I actually watched:

60 Minutes
The Amazing Race
Boardwalk Empire
(We also watch The Neighbors which we recorded Friday)

I think we also recorded:
Two installments of Once Upon A Time
Family Guy
The Good Wife
Hello Ladies
The reshowing of the last 2 innings of Mariano Rivera's last appearance (to send to my Dad in Arizona).

If I had Showtime I would have recorded The Masters of Sex as well.

No interest in Breaking Bad or Homeland (although I might wind up watching that on Netflix or where ever it ends up after the series run).

Looking at the list, all I watched was The Mentalist. The rest I had no real reason to watch.

Although maybe some day in the next couple of years, I may watch Breaking Bad when they are all on DVD or something. Odds are AMC will rerun the heck out of them too.

I definitely had to pull a contortionist act to get what I most wanted to watch recorded. I had to abandon Revenge and settle for later recordings of things.

Great Food Truck Race? Really? They'll make a show about anything these days. What's next, Garbage Trucks That Haul Crab Carcasses on Ice Roads in Alaska Driven By Axemen?

I didn't record everything from last night because I tend to rely on torrents for some of my Sunday night shows. Even if I had, conflicts and available tuners are not an issue for me. I could have recorded everything on the list with padding and still had tuners left over.

FWIW, I did check the recordings in progress and had at least six shows being recorded simultaneously while watching an episode of Luther from my server.

What about Sunday, July 20, 1969? Humans were walking on the moon, live on TV! That seems pretty crazy.

Here's hoping that next Sunday's Treehouse of Horror XV(?) is good. It's weird having it so early.

On the contrary - all three late Fox games ended before 7:30 PM Eastern.

It's XXIV (there has been one every season except the first one) - and thanks to postseason baseball, the choices are "really early," after Halloween" (and while the episode of The Simpsons won't have anything to do with Halloween per se, the other animated shows will), and "October 20, but if the ALCS lasts seven games (or six, and game 6 is rained out), then we have to hold onto them until at least mid-November."

I think I'm only watching one of those shows, Homeland(Although The Walking Dead starts up in a couple of weeks). My GF watches a couple of others though. Tuesday night is my worst night with the most shows on that I'm watching.

Netflix streaming appears to have seasons 1 thru 5, but it looks like it's only part 1 of season 5. I don't know anything about the show though and I don't care...

I watched some of S1 and S2 on Netflix (and some off my DVR). I didn't like it so I stopped, but if I want to revisit the series at some point, I know I could.

You should stick with it. The story gets better and better as it progresses. I went back and watched a lot of the early episodes with my son and it does start off a bit slow, but really picks up when Gus Fring is introduced into the mix in season 3.

You have to see the entire series to get the full impact of the show. There really has never been anything like it on TV before. Walter goes through a complete personality change throughout the series that is quite remarkable.
