The Bridge -WTF?

Has there ever been a worse promoted show than The Bridge on FX? I keep seeing teasers that tell me nothing.

It could be great (like Terriers) but nobody will watch (like Terriers) because of the poor teasers (like Terriers).

Found four teasers...

Don't sound like something I'll watch.

I've never heard of this show. Not like I need another show to watch. I'm drowning in my backlog of shows to watch.

I watch a lot of FX shows and they have previews for this on The Americans and during their UFC coverage. They need to grab me a "little bit" to get me to set up a season pass and they are failing.

I was so confused/annoyed by these that I googled the show. But now, I kind of want to watch it. So, I guess it worked.

I am interested, but I am guessing they will start showing more when it gets closer to air.

IIRC this is based off a Swedish show that had high marks.

Just googled it to see what the show is about.

Looks like there is a serial killer that works near the US Mexican border. The killer kills in both countries. There is a US and Mexican detective that are working together to try and catch the killer. Show starts in July.

I guess nothing about that makes me jump up wanting to watch it.

After what they did with The Killing, they have earned the opposite.

Did FX force AMC to do something to The Killing?

For anyone who is interested, this begins tonight.

Side question - I am a DirecTV subscriber with 5 of their HD DVRs. At some point along the way, one of the software upgrades now allows you to set an SP for a new show like this long before it shows up in the two-week guide data.

If you do a search (I think I first discovered this feature with Unforgettable), you may get a result noted with something like "Upcoming" with, I think, the start date up to maybe even a couple months ahead of time? I LOVE this!!!

I see ads for shows like this long before they're going to air, and can set an SP without having to try to remember or keep a list I have to keep checking.

My HD TiVo is only connected to an antenna for OTA broadcasts. Does this feature exist on TiVo units as well? As I'm typing I'm thinking I haven't bothered to look into that on my own machine.

Reviews for this show seem to be pretty good. I think I'll definitely check it out.

No. You could kludge a WL, but no SP ability before the show is actually in the guide.

I have high hopes for this. After the clusterfugues of Under The Dome and Crossing Lines, we need a summer show with legs.

Yeah, both Sepinwall and Greenwald really liked the pilot, so I'm in.

Since this thread was started in April, I have seen the teaser at the movie theater for the show a few times in the past month or so. I thought it seemed interesting enough to schedule a recording for, but the one review I've read of it wasn't very positive (I think it was the NY Times).

Was Greenwald's review on the website or on Hollywood Prospectus? I downloaded this week's HP but then deleted it when the description said the only topic of conversation was Jay-Z's album. I hate when they talk music.

The original promos were very much like Terriers, nothing about the actual show, much Meh!.

The promo machine has been getting better and better, showing us what the show is actually about.

I'm looking forward to it.
Looks un-mainstream enough that it might be good.
Just like Terriers was, too bad the promos killed it before anyone actually watched.

I think I just saw him tweet that he really liked it. He doesn't seem to be reviewing as many shows this summer. Slacker. Of course, Sepinwall is a machine, so maybe I'm just spoiled.

I've seen tons of promos for this show, but they were all teasers that didn't provide any details about the storyline. Then again, how many promos have you seen that actually provide this info for any dramatic series? Sitcoms are usually self-explanatory. I recorded the show last night but haven't had a chance to watch it yet. FX has had a pretty decent track record with their own shows so any new ones are usually worth checking out.

I have to say I was surprised that Terriers was canceled. It was a great show. Most cable shows don't get the same market share that the big networks get so the ratings for this show must have been abysmal to get it canceled.

Oh, believe me, they were. Not just incredibly low, but incredibly-low-even-for-FX. The pilot got 1.6 million viewers and no further episodes ever cracked 900K.

More's the pity.
