Top Gear UK - New Season starting January 27th!

Final Gear reports that according to the ticketing people, they will be filming new episodes on January 23rd. As they usually film on the Wednesday before, this means a new episode will air in the UK on Sunday, 27th with four more to follow.

I'm sure it will air on BBCA very soon after the UK showing. Those of us that use *alternative* means, probably won't even wait that long!!

I wonder if Jezza was kidding when he tweeted that they filmed a Christmas episode to air in February.

Four days seems like an awfully short turnaround time, especially with the production qualities the UK version is known for. I would think these episodes are filmed much further in advance.

Or when you mean "filming" do you mean just the in-studio part with the audience?

In-studio. The actual films are done way in advance. There are already spoilers out there for some of them. (That's how they can do the "Coming up this series on Top Gear" montage in the first episode.)

Jaremy's not been in anything recently. Is he serving some sort of time out?

He was in the Worst Car in the World special with James a few months ago.

...and he and James were on The Graham Norton Show promoting it!

Sadly, so was Joan Rivers.

Obviously I wasn't clear enough. From what I have seen, the most recent programs running now leading up to the new season have been hosted only by James and The Hamster...e.g. the two part Fail programs.

There have been only two clip shows, Andy Wilman hosted the "Best of" shows and Hammond hosted the Fail shows. I don't think those were shown anywhere other then BBCA.

The guys each do various other specials as they feel like it between series, there is usually a Christmas special because that is a BBC thing, and whenever there is a BBC sponsored telethon/fundraiser they usually do a skit.

None of the presenters have ever been in a "time-out".

Just a reminder, the first episode is now available via torrents. I'm not done with the full episode yet, but, just amazing. I won't post any spoilers, but it's worth the download.

Watched it Sunday night! Awesome.

For those that don't know, a P45 in the UK is the form you get when you leave/are fired from a job (pink slip?).

How long does it take for the new episodes to be aired on BBCA?

I think a coworker told me they are airing on BBCA one week after the UK.

Looks like it is on next Monday at 8:00 pm central on DirecTV.

Looks like, at least for the first night showing, that they are showing the whole episode again since it shows an hour and 20 minute time slot. Last year, any other showings during the week reverted to the cut back hour episodes. So try and make sure to catch the Monday night episodes if at all possible.

I can't find it. I'll admit I'm a torrent n00b, but anyone wanna help a girl out with a hint?

I don't do torrents enough to ever really remember how it all works or what I did the last time, so after I read this I decided to download Vuze. So far, so good AND it even plays with TiVo!! I've already got another British show already downloaded, converted and transferring to the TiVo. That was much easier than the way I've done it in the past!!

So is that the typical m.o.? Are the UK airings always that long and does BBCA only show the longer one once?

I will always watch a downloaded version just to make sure I see the entire show and not some edited for America version.

I think I first learned of this site from TCF. They post torrents for all the different Top Gear shows and Fifth Gear.

Here is for S19E01. Close to the bottom they have SD, 720p and 1080i links.

http://www.finalgear.com/shows/topgear/19/1/

I just download the show off usenet.

Ah, didn't know that. That adds something to that segment

Although I far prefered the Bently Continental bit. It was just nuts. (quick someone start a spoiler thread)

Thank you, Hoffer! That link worked perfectly.

My daughter is going to be pretty excited when she gets home from school and I have this downloaded. She's almost 13 and is starting to think her mom is fairly lame, so maybe having this for her will give me at least a little bit of cool cred.

That finalgear.com site is pretty great. I used it to download and watch every single episode of Top Gear. The show has come quite a way from season 1.

Yes, Jan 27th is the UK air date and Feb 4 for BBCA.

The show is available right now from *other sources*, which is why we can't start an episode specific thread (unless it's in the UK forum!!!).

One other bonus I'm seeing in going the "other sources" route is that I can get the HD version, as my cable company does not offer BBCA in HD.

The hour 20 minute episode length is to compensate for the commercials BBCA adds. Until last year they all aired in a 1 hour time slot and content was actually edited out. It would typically be the news segment, but not always.

Last year they started offering the 1 hour 20 minute episodes on the first airings, basically leaving all content intact. But subsequent episodes were edited back down to an hour. I don't know what they plan this year, but I see the 1 hour 20 minute premiere is offered twice on Monday.

Also in the past there were multi-month delays from the original air date to the BBCA showing. Now that they've made it less than a week it's almost not worth the manual download. Of course, I still couldn't help myself and probably won't be able to resist in the future. But at least it's easier now.

If they don't edit out content I'll watch it on BBCA. Otherwise, well. You know.

Do the BBCA airings utilize the real music or do they substitute garbage like they do on the Bluray releases?

Just a word of warning:

If you have BBCA set up to record "First Run", it may not pick this up. Even though Feb. 4th is the premiere on BBCA, the "original air date" is listed as Jan. 27th which is preventing my "first run" from picking it up.
