Supernatural - Sacrifice" - 5/15/13 *Season Finale*

I have so many feelings. That's FOUR brother hugs this season! FOUR!!!!!
Spoiler:

And that scene with Sam and Dean was one of the most powerful brother moments of the series. Sam's greatest sin is always letting Dean down. Dean telling Sam that nothing and nobody, past or present will ever come before his little brother. I just..... don't even look at me. I'm not crying like a baby right now.

I have to admit. I was pretty fearful of the whole Cas falling thing. I figured they would break continuity with Anna to do it and I wasn't going to like it. This though, this I can accept. I still don't love they are going in this direction with Cas because he's now just a "baby in a trenchcoat" and what the hell is he going to do next season? Just tag along with the boys? He's pretty useless like this. And I love badass Cas so much. I guess I'll just have to look forward to him getting his grace back at some point.

And hats off to everyone's acting this episode. Jared especially. That was emmy worthy. Mark Sheppard knocked it out of the park as well. I'm curious what happens with Crowley now that they didn't finish. Will he stay at this in between good/bad or will he eventually go back to his old evil self? I enjoyed his snark so I kinda hope the latter.

Jody lived! Thought when I heard she was making a guest spot they'd just kill her off too! I am bummed about Alaina. Abaddon survived but I don't see how she could ever go back into that meat suit again. And she was good, SO GOOD in that role. Maybe my favorite demon next to Crowley.

I'm not sure what else I have to say. Next season with no angels and all the demons still roaming should be very interesting.

Thoughts??

No angels? They're all here on Earth! And pissed!

A little bold to make Metratron the almost-out-of-nowhere Big Bad. I wonder if they knew he was even going to be in the show when the season started? But for somebody about whom there wasn't even a hint earlier, they played his emergence well.

I wish they could do the return of God. That seems almost necessary at this point, but I can't imagine how they could get away with it...the God they would come up with would almost certainly be unpalatable to very powerful political factions, and if not, almost certainly unpalatable to most Supernatural fans.

Apropos of not much of anything, I always love the recaps on the season finalés.

But the other angels fell in the literal sense, like Anna right?? Wasn't that the entire point of having Cas be different than the others? That means they are all just babies being born once they hit the earth.

And God aka Chuck could certainly come back into the picture next season. In fact, I wouldn't be at all surprised.

You know, we've batted around Dean's deep seated feelings of guilt before but we really haven't talked about Sam's that much.

And that scene made me feel guilty that we hadn't.
They did a good job of bringing all that pain to the surface out for everyone to see.

I have to say that the producers played it well as I did not see the extant of Metatron's plan coming and the way he turned on Castiel.
Curtis Armstrong played that well.
(BTW, Booger does get ejected too, right?)

I have the feeling that if this had been the last season though, it would have ended with Sam dying to close the Gates of Hell and Dean holding him in his arms.

I'm thinking whatever the "spell" was that he was having Cas help do, booted them all but him.

Nope. They won't end it that way. They'll both die.

You don't want to see Sam with a wife, kids, and grandkids, living out until he's fat and bald and chugging Viagra?

Absolutely, as long as Dean's alive living with his own. Otherwise, no. Live together or die together. I'll accept nothing else!

Maybe Morgan Freeman has some available time.

Kinda funny how two of my favorite tv characters are the devil in Supernatural and the devil in Reaper.

Was Naomi an archangel?

I predict that we'll find out that Metatron is really God under cover.

God wouldn't need a spell to kick all the angels out of Heaven.

Nobody mentioned the best part: Crowley has "Baby Got Back" as his ringtone.

Is there just one more season planned to be the final? For some reason I was thinking I heard they were planning to end with 10.

Well, they were planning to end with 5, so I'd say they'll end when they stop making money on it (either because of declining ratings, increasing salaries, disappearing cast members, or a combination of the above) and not one season sooner.

Jared and Jensen have both signed on for Seasons 9&10 assuming the show gets picked up.

That's probably why I thought 10 seasons.

I think it was on one of the earlier season DVD's where they were talking about how this show was different because the lead actors were in way more scenes than is normal for a 1 hour drama. Based on that, i wonder how long they can really go.

Metatron sounds like the name of a Transformer to me. It's hard to get that thought out of my head.

It looks like Ben Edlund is leaving Supernatural for Revolution.

I'm not sure how bad this news is. The article makes a good point:
Quote:
Supernatural will survive just fine without Edlund, but Revolution should get a huge boost with him as it looks to improve creatively after its dull first season. And it's not just Edlund who will help things out in Season 2. It was previously announced that Farscape and Defiance creator Rockne S. O'Bannon, as well as CSI:NY's Trey Callaway, are also joining Revolution's writing team. Edlund, O'Bannon, Callaway, and Kripke make a solid quartet.
So hopefully, it's Win-Win. Or at least, Not Lose-Win.

I don't watch Revolution and Edlund has written some of the best SPN episodes so how is this a win in any way for me?

I have reservations because as Cristina has said, Edlund has written some of the best episodes of the series and being on the writing staff, he has had his hand in many more as well as having a voice in shaping the series.

It's possible that someone else well step up but I don't think we can discount Edlund's contribution.
