can kmttg transfer shows from a Tivo to a PC without a router involved?

I have a Tivo premiere with a lifetime subscription on it. I am going to be shutting down my home internet service for a while.

So my question is this...... If I connect my computer directly to the Tivo with an ethernet cable, will kmttg allow me to transfer shows directly?

Thanks,

TC

Without a router, how would the Tivo and your PC get assigned an IP address? You can get a router and simply not connect it to the internet. It will still use DHCP to assign IP addresses to everything connected on the LAN side.

One other problem is that without internet service you won't be able to get any guide data for your Tivo. When the guide runs out you may still be able to record shows manually, but that's a bit of a PITA and sort of defeats the purpose of owning a Tivo.

In the absence of a DHCP server or a static IP assignment, the network interface will probably pick an address from the autoconfig range. So, yeah, it would work.

update......

I tried this and...... good news!.... it DOES work.

I used an ethernet cable to connect my Tivo Premiere directly to my computer. Then I used kmttg to transfer my recorded shows from the Tivo over to the PC. It worked like a charm. No router needed.

The only problem so far really is that it will not correctly transfer shows from a pause point in the video. Perhaps I could play around with it and get it to cooperate. This feature is something that kmttg is normally able to do easily when you have a router involved.

Why can't you continue to use your router? Having internet access is not necessary.

If your Premiere is running the latest s/w(20.3.1), that feature is broken.
