I called TiVo Customer support. They said that the most likely cause was too strong a signal from the cable box and they recommended buying a "cable signal strength attenuator." Just use a cable splitter, as each 2 way splitter cut the signal down by 3.5Db or 50% and you can get them anywhere for under $3.00
