Orphan Black 5/4/13 "Variations Under Domestication"

Finally! Evolution!!

And finally, for the first time in years Matt Frewer intrigues me instead of annoying me. So is he the Big Bad, or just middle management? I'm guessing Big Bad. Maybe.

Tatiana Maslany continues to impress, both at depicting the distinct characters and at plausibly playing various of them playing various others of them.

Paul is interesting. It seems like they didn't make the best choice for Beth's Observer; he is certainly turning into a loose cannon.

And Alison is lucky she married a man who's as nuts as she is.

I still can't get Max Headroom out of my head whenever I see Matt Frewer no matter what else he has done.

Max Headroom was great, and iconic. Unfortunately, I can't get Taggert (from Eureka) out of my head. But he's already done a pretty good job here of wiping that stain away...

I find it bizarre that within a month, in two wildly different shows (this one and The Office) there is a scene with a unconscious character having a helmet put on their head and then being slid down the stairs.

And thank god Frewer isn't doing an Australian accent in this show (not that he did one in Eureka - that was just a horrible attempt to do one).

Why is it just now that Cosima is getting a handler? Do the powers that be not know about all the clones and are just now finding out about others? Beth's handler has been around for a couple of years. We're still not sure if Alison has one or not. It doesn't seem like Sarah has ever had one.

I'm liking this show and have to strongly agree that Tatiana Maslany is doing a stellar job. And in the scene where Sarah and Alison were on the couch together it really appeared that they were two totally different characters. Very well done.

She is probably just getting a different handler. She moved recently, and it would have been suspicious if her old handler followed her to University.

As for the helmet, what kind of moron slides someone down the stairs head first? The helmet indicates that she is still concerned about his safety. So grab him under the arms (or hold his hands) and let him kind of slide down the stairs while she holds him enough to keep him from going head over heels.

I do have to say Sarah and her clones are making a beautiful mess of things.

Please stop having the british people playing americans stop saying "sorted" (and other british slang). Instantly pulls me out of the moment.

An american watching a soccer match in the middle of the night seems more likely than cricket. Just sayin...

Other than that, I really enjoy the show

Is that a double negative? Or just a typing error?

Just caught up in a TiVo marathon. This show rocks. Fast paced, well acted edgy and paradoxically funny sci-fi.

Brilliant way to save money on cast salaries.

Yeah, that was a really weird choice of things to watch.

Why was Allison's friend so oblivious about Sarah's shirt being changed *again* when they met in the garage?

Might have something to do with the fact they aren't playing Americans but Canadians

I was waiting for somebody to discover that there was no such match at that time, but I guess he turned out to be innocent...

To me the best part of the episode was "Allison's" reaction after hitting her hubby. She played that perfectly. Nervous, unsure of what she was doing and then getting completely wasted so as not to think about it. Well acted.

This is turning into one of my favorites. Eye candy, action and an intriguing plot. Good stuff.

Or a very good liar. I thought that part was extremely well-written. Going into the episode, I could not imagine what could have been in the box (other than incriminating evidence that he is her handler) that he would consider his wife finding his porn to be preferable.

But the explanation that an old girlfriend who he lost touch with, possibly dead, that he felt very strongly about keeping private, works well. It could be a lie, but if so, that guy wins the award for best liar of the year.

Are there British cricket matches at what would have to be around 9 or 10am UK time? If not, I guess it would have to be a match in India or something for the time to work out. Either that or it was not live. Do Canadians watch pre-recorded cricket games in the middle of the night?

Or maybe an Australian/New Zealand one?

The party scenes reminded me of a sitcom. All the scrambling around was funny rather than tense that the clones would be found out.

Show has edgy realism. I mean who here hasn't been KOed by the wife swing a golf club, tied up in the rec room and tortured? Ah, suburban life. Canadian style?

Good luck with that. It's so cleverly concealed, he'll never find it.

That was just silly. Haven't the writers ever perused a catalog of cheap spy equipment? You can buy all sorts of cameras concealed in stuffed animals, pack of cigarettes, clock radios, jewelry, etc. Why would she buy a bare camera and then place it so obviously in view?

Becasue she had no idea what was available and that is what the salesperson sold her. She was also in a rush when purchasing it.

I have been enjoying this show. I'm glad i decided to watch it. I prefer watching this over Doctor Who now.

That's absurd. Of course there would have been several possibilities, of the type I mentioned, on display in a store like that. That was clearly a writing failure.

She was in a rush. Plus she had no clue what was available. People buy stuff all the time without researching only becasue it was what the saleperson sold them.
I see it happen in my personal life and I've seen it happen at work with expensive projects.

Not so much a writing failure as a lazy directing choice...they wanted it to be obvious so when they showed it again, they wouldn't have to spend time SHOWING it.

I think it's the same reason they have dial tones when people hang up cell phones...sure, it makes no sense, but it gets the point across a lot easier than something that DOES make sense.

I'm starting to feel a little sorry for Vic. He is disgusting (not right) but constantly getting beat up and I think he truly loves Sarah.

Not in the least. He's a slimy worm. It will take a lot more torture (and missing appendages) before I can even think about moving Vic to the other side of the ledger.
