That was pretty sad at the end but the show seemed to end too suddenly for me. Needed something else to bring it down.

Merle's change of heart was a bit sudden also.

Outside of that I thought it was a great episode. I'm happy with the blood and guts but please keep the romance stuff out of zombie shows

Sorry Burn in Hell Creator/ Executive Producer Robert Kirkman for killing off one of the most interesting characters.

Great episode, I was so expecting 40 minuets of torture (literally), so glad I was wrong.

Add in one more person who now has a personal reason to kill the Governor, however Daryl may have not noticed Merle was shot and even if he did doesn't know it is the Governor... yet.

Brilliant move by the Governor to not headshot Merle.

Hard to believe there's only one episode left.

That's a whole lot of hell to bust loose in just 42 minutes!

Great episode!

The final scene was the best this season.

I was glad that Merle had a sort of change of heart and decided to do something - and did it his way. It's too bad that we couldn't watch that change continue and grow and it's too bad that Daryl won't know what really happened. I hope some of that will come out.

And that finger biting off move by the Gov. Ewwww!!!

Merle must think Michonne is a horse. He just wraps her wire twice around a pole and expects her to stay there. I guess Michonne thinks so too, since she did not unwrap the wire. Am I missing something?

Darryl does not seem to be as good a tracker as the governor. He did not manage to catch up to Merle once, whereas the governor managed to catch up to Andrea twice last episode.

Glenn took the ring off the severed finger and apparently gave it a wash before he gave it to Maggie. It would have been less romantic if he had a selection of ring fingers in his pocket and asked Maggie which one looks like her size...

Could it be because Andrea was on foot and the Governor had a car?

Meanwhile Merle found a car and Darryl was on foot?

I can only guess that Darryl has a clue what happened. It was the same location that he already visited when Rick met the gov. He saw downed, fresh bodies. Who else would they be but the governor's men?

I can't imagine taking a ring for a guy that just tore it off of a zombie. I don't know. Just seems creepy in some way.

Yes, that seemed kind of weird especially when the walkers started showing up and she didn't try to unhitch herself. Before that I think she was waiting for a better opportunity or had a feeling she could talk him into letting her go eventually.

I half expected Glen to give her the ring with the finger still in it.

Wow... I saw part of that coming (Daryl having to kill Merle), but I did not see it happening like that.

I also didn't see Murrl's change of heart coming.

Next week ought to be good.

I don't see it as a change of heart as realizing he doesn't fit in either place so he may as well do some chaos to the camp that does not contain his brother and show him how it's done.

If anyone doesn't watch it already, Talking dead provides much insight into the characters and making of the show. They had the guy who plays Merle tonight and he talked a bit about his character's motivation. Basically it's all about his brother.

They also had the director of the episode on, and the Governor. Some good stuff.

I thought it was a fantastic episode (of both Walking and Talking Dead).

I think it was very telling that Merle had kept count if how many people he'd killed. We've always looked at him as this hardened, cynical, emotionless guy, but the fact that he knew how many people he had killed shows that it was really bothering him. The thing that finally put Merle over the edge was when Michonne got him to realize that the only person in the zombie apocalypse who had asked him to kill other humans was The Governor, and that cleared things up for him about which side was worth fighting for.

I thought Merle had some military experience. In an ambush situation, your intended target should be your first shot, so you don't give away your position before achieving your objective. Unless your position is secure and you can complete your mission despite your location being known. His location was far from secure, seeing as a walker managed to draw him out of hiding.

Of course I know this is TV and the villain has to stick around until the end of his arc. But it just made Merle look like a screw up instead of someone with military training.

Since everybody in this show acts like a complete idiot at one time or another, I will just assume that she thinks he looted a jewelry store on one of his supply runs. By established standards (Yeah, I'm lookin' at YOU, Lori), that would be a pretty benign level of idiocy.

I'm not sure the Guv was in Merle's line of sight until Merle did take the shot at him (which was "intercepted" by the Guv's stooge)...he showed up late and was moving around, and Merle had to move from window to window to get at different groups of stooges.

I usually can't stand Talking Dead but watch the first five minutes and then turn it off. The host just bugs me. Tonight I watched the whole thing. Great guests and even the host was tolerable. "You guys all look like members of a some band".

That is a great analysis and seems more right than just a blanket "he had a change of heart". Add to that that it is all about his brother and it all clicks. He also kept saying that he was just doing what Rick couldn't do and I think he was silently saying he was doing what he didn't want his brother to step up and have to do if Rick couldn't. Not that Daryl would do it, but that Merle may think that Daryl would think that he (daryl) should.

What was the Guv and his men doing there? I thought the hand-off was supposed to happen at the gate (last episode, the Guv told his men to start firing as soon as they show up beyond the trees).

To each their own.

And as I said, I usually don't, but last nights was worth it. 'nuff said.

I had the same question.

The other thing that bothered me was the first quarter of the episode and the I'm giving Michonne to the Governor - no I am not plot that felt like it was just there to get Merle out of the prison.

oh so 2 weeks ago.

I thought they arranged to meet at the same place.

Rick would be crazy to meet at Woodbury. At least on neutral ground they would have equal expectation of setting up an ambush.

Then again, see my earlier comments re idiocy.

If they arranged to meet at the same place then Rick missed the meeting and the Guv and all his minions left before Daryl got there?

I guess we will find out next week...

Rick didn't go to the meeting. And I would imagine the Guv and his minions left after they found Merle and all the carnage started.

It was a brillant, yet detestable play on the Governor to shoot Merle dead, but not in the head.

Well, the Guv was down to arming children and now he lost probably 5-6 of his best men. If Tyrese (sp?) flips, Rick's gang isn't so outnumbered anymore.
