Person of Interest - Season 4 - *SPOILERS*

Since we don't tend to have too many individual threads for this show, maybe a season thread will help.

I guess with the servers being hacked to not recognize them, and their own private phone system, we will be going back to normal? Samaritan will be the big bad, but I suspect it will remain essentially similar to previous seasons, with the number of the week format.

Probably. And it appears Finch has a new library, too. One completely off the grid.

Being a narcotics officer and then a homicide detective is the machine's idea of laying low?

I would think that part of the Machine's plan requires Reese to be in that position.
I did like Shaw's reaction when she found out that Reese was working as a cop though.

(And there are over 35,000 officers in the NYPD)

It was a pretty routine POI case but this was needed in order to start laying the ground for the campaign against Decima.
I suspect that Shaw hooking up with "Romeo" and his crew is part of that plan.

Wonder if there's going to be an issue with Elias' henchman picking up that phone though.

did they ever show who the person was who was in charge of the gang ?

they mentioned his name a few times, but I thought they also said nobody knew who he was

and I'm not caring too much for the new female assassin that works for Decima

Mesh networks are a real thing. They were used in Iran when their government cut their internet and the protestors needed a way to communicate with each other and the outside world.

Since Finch said that the phones he gave to Reese were using a rolling encryption. I think Elias's organization wont be able to eaves drop on the good guys, however they may be able to use the phone to connect to the mesh network so that their illegal business activities is now invisible to Samaratin, and maybe invisible to Finch's machine as well. I hope they give good reason on why the henchman would want to pick up the phone.

However if one of Elias's men is caught with the phone it may get the attention of Samaratin, and then finding the phones Finch made for the gang would probably be easy since they would be pinging on all the antennas..

We'll just see where the writers go with it.

BTW, forgot to mention that I liked that they had Reese pause for a moment before he took Carter's old desk.

I really wanted Shaw's new identity to be a pole dancer, but then I'm a horrible person.
Anybody know Bear's new identity?

But that limits them to NYC, right? I know in the past, that's where almost all of the action has taken place, but they have occasionally went to other cities. But now those new phones won't work there.

Why couldn't Finch simply add an encrypted call program to existing cell phones?

I thought the mesh network idea was quite clever. It gives them back some amount of capability in the show and avoids a lot of viewers saying "but wouldn't they get caught?" Overall I have to say I hope they deal with, or at least degrade, the new AI relatively soon. I don't enjoy the skulking around with no resources nearly as much as I liked the uber-badasses in total control we used to have

I was really happy to see Elias again. That's a great character.

I thought it was a good episode and as usual look forward to the next.

I think they did a good job of having the number of the week but using that to kind of remobilize the team by using the phones and discovering a new headquarter.

Honestly, I think its kind of crazy how one man was able to tie in almost every old TV antenna into the mesh network. How many buildings are in NY?

Finch's machine could recruit someone (even if they didn't know it) in other neighboring or important cities to give the A team more mobility. I read a book (Daemon) where the AI taking over hacked into work queues to have people do things it needed done, but the person doing the work was just doing what their work order was telling them to do and was none the wiser they were helping an AI amass domination of the worlds computer systems.

That was my first thought as well and while encryption might protect the content of the calls, the AI may be able to track them down if they're on a known cell network.

Because Quantum Computers.

And because as squint points out with good old fashioned pattern matching you do not need to know the contents of a call in order to locate somebody.

(I vaguely wonder if encrypting a call increases the attention an intelligence agency gives to it)

I believe that he had help from the gang members.
Remember that one of them was killed on a roof with wire crimpers which led "Detective" Reese to the electronics shop and Dad.

Well, isn't that how the Machine got itself moved from the Nuclear facility?

I hope this show doesn't pull a Suits and spend an entire season having somebody investigate whether Reese really graduated from the police academy.

Currently even bigger in Hong Kong.

Even though it currently lacks encryption 100,000 people in Hong Kong downloaded the Firechat mesh app it one day.

If you want to give it a try >

Better yet, they had Fusco recognize his hesitation and give him permission by welcoming him to the precinct.

Reminds me of the hideout in "Supernatural?"

Looks to me like they recycled the secret laboratory set from Spider Man 2.

(Peter Parker's dad's lab, that he gained access to with the old subway tokens)
