Hannibal - The episode 4 you won't see

I heard about this on a podcast the other day. Episode 4 was supposed to be about kids getting brainwashed to kill other kids. The shows executive producer has decided to pull the episode.

They have edited down the episode into 6 webisodes. It won't be showing the killer of the week stuff with the kids, but will show character development that will roll into future episodes.

The story and webisodes can be found at this link.

i am sure they will air it when the dust has settled.
this happened with a buffy episode back in the day and it aired a few months later when no one noticed.

It sounds like they're going to cannibalize the ongoing story elements for other episodes, which means probably not (maybe on the DVD set?)...

This irritates me. I don't mind ancillary tangents to a TV show (webisodes, games, etc), but when there will be character development, and I don't get it if I only watch TV, then I feel like I'm missing out. Most of the time when I hear this, I simply stop watching a show. Call me antediluvian, but I don't want to be forced to watch the web to keep up, I want to watch TV.

When I heard about this, I thought the same thing. I have plenty of other shows to watch and haven't even started on this one yet. Watching TV isn't supposed to be difficult.

Except they said they're going to use that material in the actual show, so you're good.

I believe that's tonight's...I saw it yesterday, but there was no point in getting it since it will record tonight anyway.

if you haven't watched the pieces of episode 4 that are online, i would recommend seeing them before watching tonight's episode 5. about half of the episode is available, and there is quite a bit of character development involved - no wonder they made these parts available.

while i'm sympathetic to those directly impacted by recent events, i'm still disappointed the rest of the world gets to see it when we don't. couldn't the airing have been delayed instead, like they did with revolution?

What aired here last night is called (on the guide, anyway) S01, E04 'Coquilles'. Is that 04?

I haven't watched it yet. I just checked to see what the dealio was.

That's 1x05. They moved it up when they "canceled" 1x04.

Ah, ok. Thanks, Rob. Damn. I figured we slid through and got it. I hate to sound like a snit, but why couldn't they just air it and allow people to choose whether or not they want to watch. Reality - what a concept.

Those webisodes had so much potential and such little content to go on. I so want to see the whole episode now.

I can't find the pulled episode "magically." Only a web rip of the hacked pieces they put online. I'd prefer the more filling, fully cooked version. Is that available somewhere?

Nope.

Not yet, anyway.

According to eztv, the episode will be broadcast (likely in its entirety) in India on 4/28, Asia 4/30, and Poland 5/1. So, it's probably just around the corner.

I just downloaded the episode via bit torrent. There are some torrents of episode 5 mislabeled as well as the web version of episode 4. The correct one has hardcoded Korean(?) subtitles.

Did the "previously on" segment have bits of the Show That We Didn't See?

It sure *seemed* like there were bits I don't remember seeing, but that may be my horrible memory. (Heck, I usually don't even watch previously on segments, but I guess I'm starting to more often for these HIGHLY serial shows.)

Same here. I just watched ep 05, which was called 04 on my guide since 04 was pulled, and it seemed like there was some stuff I don't remember from the recap.

That said, however, I'm having a hard time having a clue as to what is going on with this show. I'm not particularly stupid, but I feel kind of lost. I do still feel like I want to watch, though. heh

And it looks like the Salt Lake City NBC affiliate has decided that Hannibal no longer fits their broadcast standards.
