King of the nerds

Anyone watch? I'm halfway through and might delete the SP. they're trying so hard to hit every geek/nerd stereotype is just ridiculous. It's the nerd version of product placement.

It's recording on my TiVo and I've only watched the 1st 19 mins or so. I guess I'll at least try to finish the 1st ep.

I guess Viggle is good for something. I only found out about it because of the 150 Viggle bonus points for checking into that show.

I'm not nearly as nerdy as those players and am not a comic book fan but I have to say they've given them a pretty cool house to stay at.

That's a pretty crappy way to be picked...

It was interesting enough for me to keep watching. I give them credit for setting things up as they did, with the odd number of players, forcing someone to be skipped over. Giving that person immunity was cool. That she basically screwed up and failed in her efforts as the adviser to the nerd that went home was, well, not good but oh well. He was a doofus for placing himself in danger on the very first challenge.

Didn't think it was great, but watched it and will probably continue to watch, but maybe not every week.. (i.e. will record a ton of eps & watch en masse maybe).

Yes, pretty much every stereotype imaginable. I knew the last one (not) picked was going to have the power, but I can't remember what other show used that fairly recently. Maybe Survivor?

She only had an AA? Argh!

I'd give it a strong "meh". I'll give it another couple of episodes, but I'm not seeing much here that sets it apart from every other competition reality show.

I appreciated the method of choosing teams and the twist of giving the left-out player (Alana?) the power, and I thought making chess the challenge was novel if stereotypical. But I think the show needs more to set it apart and make it interesting. "Nerd culture" is so much part of the current mainstream culture that, in my opinion, the show will really need to build up these contestants as something special because of their nerdness, not in spite of it, or it will just be a weekly "hey look at the nerd stereotype we focus on THIS week!" crapapalooza.

[slight rant] And why does Robert Carradine's outfit have to be the glasses and bow tie? Will we not recognize him from RotN without the obvious call-back? Booger was dressed normally, and he came across just fine. [/slight rant]

Now, having said that, I think I'd like to see other cast members make appearances on the show, tied into challenges based on their characters:

-- Donald Gibb ("Ogre"), leading an athletic challenge
-- Larry B. Scott ("Lamar"), leading a music-themed challenge
-- Ted McGinley ("Stan"), leading a challenge to join the cast of as many fading TV shows as possible

They advertised this relentlessly during the TBS shows I watch (King of Queens and Seinfeld) that I was hoping it would last one episode max. Looks awful.

It's called "King of the Nerds". Did you all think it would not have nerd stereotypes? They're stereotypes for a reason. I thought it was interesting and different enough to keep around.

Might be interesting to watch them play a game of flag football though.

I just finished watching Episode 1 and thought it was ok - entertaining enough to keep watching. I thought it was funny how they flipped around Game of Thrones and the winner gets to sit on the Throne of Games

Sad to see pink boy go- I didn't much care for the format of the Nerd Off. Those rolling whatsi-hedrons rolled too randomly. I would have preferred a more skill or knowledge based task.
And after watching a few seasons of Face Off those costumes were so bad!
The goat footed stilts were cool, though.

Someone remind me- why was Booger ever considered a nerd to begin with?
Wasn't he more of a gross lout?
The guy has made a career out of being disgusting.

I made it one episode and then stopped. Their awful chess match just made it not worth sticking with. Too bad, because this show had promise. It could have been a twist on "Beat The Geek" quiz show from a few years ago.

That dress up play thing was brutal, must be a nerd thing I was embarrassed for them. Was going to change channel glad I didn't liked when the girl won the contest.

I was not happy that the girl won. She's one of the most annoying people I've ever seen. Ah well.

Not sure what I think about this show yet. I thought the team picking exercise was interesting. Didn't expect that twist at the end. Well done and very fitting for this show. Did not get the cosplay thing. That's way too nerdy for me. I would hate to have to play dress-up like that.

Girl with the pink hair is pretty hawt. Hope she sticks around for a bit.

She's annoying because she breathes through her mouth which just plain makes her look stupid.
Plus, judging by what I have seen, she may well be stupid.

IMO she doesn't belong there to start with.

Exactly. She acts like she's mentally handicapped. Not being insensitive but she looks like an idiot next to these brilliant people.

The girl who won more seems to be very nervous, would probably come off better if she calmed down.

Anyone still watching?

I thought both nerd anthems were pretty good. Both teams did a surprisingly good job.

I was surprised that Virgil lost in the dance competition esp. since Genevieve knew that Virgil was better at that game and had a much better chance of winning. It was kinda funny for her to put on that frown when she found out what the nerd off would be.

Genevieve cracks me up- she is so disdainful of other's "drama," but when it is her turn she turns into a simpering child. And yeah, her little frowny face when they announced the dance challenge was absolutely priceless- we must have rewound to see it ten times.
Just like the tears a few eps back when something didn't go her way.

I will miss Virgil because of his quirks, but Ivan is my favorite because he seems the most well adjusted of the bunch.

I am a little disappointed that Curtis does all the talking- I want more Bobby!

I was so surprised that Danielle won the competition. I'm sure Moo will got nothing but grief and/or jokes at work but how she did.

I didn't really watch the conversation Danielle had w/the others before she wrote the note to Celeste, but I was surprised that she changed her mind later and picked Genevieve for the nerd off.

Still watching, actually very excited for the finale this week. Rooting for Genevieve, but as long as Danielle does not win, I will be happy (she is such a B*TCH!)

This isn't the greatest show on TV, but my wife and I find it fun. (The Sumo wrestler was LOL funny.) I think there challenges are cool. The build a 10' structure was awesome.

We're enjoying it, but then we're nerds. And if someone wins without having to demonstrate a single bit of Star Trek knowledge I'm calling shenanigans.

We like Ivan because he seems to be the most well adjusted person there.
We also like to make fun of Genevieve because she rants when others go all dramatic but when her turn comes she turns into the biggest drama llama of them all.
She also has the most amusing crying/frowny face.

This.

I think it was last week's episode that they stopped the interview segment with her crying (of course) and her mouth crooked. It's hard to describe, but it totally cracked me up.

Glad Danielle didn't win. Wow, what a poor loser. She's probably still whining about the unimportance of the creator of Pong.

IMO Genevieve deserved the win.
Celeste was kind of a non-entity all along for me- maybe the first winner on any show who did so purely by flying completely under the radar.
