SNL 2/16/13 Christoph Waltz; Alabama Shakes

Carnival Cruise Ship Triumph
Christoph Waltz monologue
What Have You Become?
Papal Securities commercial
Tippy at Denny's New Apartment
Djesus Uncrossed commercial
JaMarcus Brothers
Alabama Shakes performs
Weekend Update
..Top Stories
..Sen. Marco Rubio

..Olya Povlatsky

..Stephen A. Smith
My New Girlfriend Regine
Fox and Friends
Alabama Shakes performs
Creepy Dmitri

I was really hoping for more from Christoph, he was ok, but I don't think he was used a lot, nor did they give him much to work with.

Fox and Friends getting buried behind WU, interesting, usually that makes the cold open.

I'm not feeling it with Regine, yeah it's absurd, but I'm not laughing at it yet.

Tippy was pretty ho-hum for me but I have the feeling we'll be seeing that character again.

I'm developing a crush for Cicely Strong.

I thought this was a good show, and really like Christoph Waltz. Not everything was strong, but overall it passed more than failed. IMHO.

I can't remember once Fox and Friends being the cold open. Maybe it happened but it is not usual at all.

Well, it did make it in once:

SNL 5/5/12 Eli Manning; Rihanna

but your overall point is valid, it is not usually the cold open.

It's never been after WU before though, which I still think is odd.

The best part of Fox & Friends is the correction list.

A "period piece" is not a movie that only plays during one week of the month.

Anyone else notice that Don Pardo didn't do the opening announcement this week? Hope he's okay.

(Actually, they used a recording of him doing the cast members' names, but then for "musical guest Alabama Shakes, and your host Christoph Waltz...ladies and gentlemen, Christoph Waltz!", it was someone imitating his voice.)

Are you sure it wasn't him? I agree it sounded off, but it was close enough that I thought maybe he had a cold or something.

Yeah, it definitely was not him. Trainman's right, they used his recording for the cast names, but then someone else did the Christoph Waltz/Alabama Shakes introductions.

I'm actually surprised this doesn't happen more these days. I mean, the guy is 94, and will be 95 (!) in a week, and he has retired several times over, yet they still have him doing the introductions (albeit from his home in Arizona these days).

It's said in the Tom Shales book that Darrel Hammond does the intro for Pardo whenever he isn't available.

But I think Hammond does a better Pardo than whomever did it last night.

I loved the Carnival skit when they went to the newspaper to read some good things that were happening in the world.

And I am liking Cicely a lot too.

I still hate Jay Pharoah. And his makeup for Stephen Smith was BAD. (not his fault, of course.)

"Adele is actually a singer. 'A Dell' is the computer." LOL

I thought the entire episode was fantastic.
The Jesus trailer was the highlight of the entire episode for me.

Even the fake Pope financial commercial worked for me. When Waltz spoke as the Pope it was hilarious.

I ended up very much liking Christoph Waltz, even though I knew nothing about him.

Hopefully he'll do more movies than just whatsisstupidname movies, because I have no desire to watch those at all.

They were hard to watch because of the lead singer's mannerisms, but I enjoyed listening to them.

And Cecily is very cute but I also like Nasim Pedrad!

OK I gotta know is the lead singer a girl? Trangender? Transvestite? I don't know why but that was distracting me.

Girl

If you watched The Grammys, she was the other female, besides Mavis Staples, that sang "The Weight".

I'm surprised at how many hadn't heard of Alabama Shakes. They had a pretty big 2012.

Have heard them on XM and online radio stations but never seen what they look like.

That's funny, both my wife and I were only listening at first and we both insisted it was a dude until we looked.

Yep that is why I was curious, having never seen her I always thought it was a dude.

I think that lead singer was trying a bit too hard. Her facial expressions during some of those songs...yeesh.

I do like their music. They're actually coming to play here, but it's a "standing, general admission" show and in the venue they chose, I'm not up for that.

LOL! That had me distracted as well, but I did enjoy their performances.
