Community premiere delayed

... indefinitely. (Also Whitney.)

Seems like good news, perhaps. With NBC's ratings in the tank on at least two other nights, they can't afford to launch another night that goes immediately down the loo. So a premiere with more promotional effort behind it, or one on another night entirely, sounds like a possibility.

Wouldn't be surprised to see them hold these two shows and use them to fill the spots that will inevitably be vacated by Guys With Kids and Animal Practice.

That would sure be better than having these two shows trying to lead off on Friday night.

I couldn't care less about Community, but I've really been looking forward to Whitney. Wish you'd put that in the title.

TV Guide article on the current state of "Community" (warning: includes some minor storyline/guest star casting spoilers).

This isn't all that different from what happened last year. They kept it until mid season. NBC knows they have some junk sitcoms and they can't air a rerun of any of their other weak sitcoms (all of them) so they are keeping some new stuff on reserve. Guys with Kids and Animal Practice have no chance of surviving unless a miracle happens.

Well I feel the same way. Without Dan Harmon community is more of a spectacle for me to see how it goes. Whitney really improved as a show last year and I am already boldly predicting it will get a third season.

Unfortunately with the heart and soul and skewed mind behind the show gone it is hard to say how this new season will match up to those you are just discovering.

Is Animal Practice that bad? I have it saved because of obvious reasons but not going to waste time on it if it has no shot.

The pilot had some laughs, the monkey is surprisingly effective. I saw the commercials with the monkey and thought this won't last long, but the commercials were not a good sample of what I've seen which is only the pilot. Some have said the 2nd episode was pretty good. I'd at least watch that before deleting.

re A.P. I HATED the pilot, and deleted the season pass. But TiVo caught last weeks as a suggestion, and I have to admit I chuckled a few times. I think I would like it better if they had anybody but Bobby Lee in it.

Community is awesome!

Whitney is just plain bad. Really surprised to hear it's coming back.

I watched the pilot of Animal Practice and didn't have a single laugh or chuckle. Will not watch again.

Same here. But I like the lead guy so much, I gave it another episode (or 2, I don't recall). It just didn't get better. Too formulaic and predictable. Cartoonish people, the kind that evolve over time as a comedy gets old and writers keep up old reliable jokes (think: The Office now). But this was a brand new show!

I would write the same about "Go On" as well.

And, to go back to the topic: Community RULES!

What are the obvious reasons? Annie's Boobs?

Ha! Kinda. I'm a HUGE animal freak if you didn't now. I assumed most did. Maybe I don't mention it here as much. I know I drive people crazy usually with it. And I love Justin on Weeds so I was hoping this would do well.

I would imagine they have several episodes in the can by now. If nothing else, they will burn some episodes off. NBC for whatever reason believes in this show. I really wish they could be right about it.

Whitney was funny, and smart, and I really like that they introduced a character with a "fluid and evolving" sexuality. It's not something you see a lot on TV, yet I think it happens quite a bit in the real world.

This isn't because of Whitney or Community, it's because NBC is eating it on other nights. The delay for both shows is really just so they can figure out if one or both will be needed on another night instead, and/or to make sure they get launched in a way that minimizes NBC's chance of eating it on Friday, too.

Whitney was great. I'm looking forward to it coming back mid-season sometime.

It's not a very good show, yet I find myself watching it. LOVE LOVE LOVE the monkey. I'll watch any show that has a monkey. Especially when the monkey wears a vet outfit and walks around assisting the lead vet (Justin Kirk).

The writing isn't quite as sharp as I'd like to see in a sitcom, and it's probably doomed based on ratings.

But I love the monkey. We need more monkey shows.

And I thought Whitney was good, and was glad to see it got renewed. I like her sense of comedy. She kills in Comedy Roasts. Whitney could be even better if they introduced a monkey character.

On topic: Love Community, curious to see how changing showrunner affects the show. Hope we get some Annie's Boobs.
