The Big Bang Theory 2.14.13 "The Tangible Affection Proof"

Both the harp and the map were such awesome Valentine's Day gifts that I never got past Sheldon scorning them. I kept waiting for him to show them to Amy- IMO she would have swooned like with the tiara.

Actually, the best was the one Sheldon kept. For Amy, that is.

But the scene with their gift exchange was priceless.

I half expected Sheldon's assistant to grab the cash and bolt at that point.

I found myself really hating Sheldon for the first time when he grabbed that gift for himself. I know it's just a teevee show, but they really portrayed him as very hate-able in that scene...

I thought this episode was danged near perfect (minus the Raj story line, but I've kind of ceased to care about him. Which sucks-I really like Kevin Sussman and am really, really :| about the woman they've obviously brought in to be his "super quirky" love interest.)

But the other two couples I thought were just about perfect. Almost to the point where I was a little disappointed in the tag, although I thought the idea was funny, it just made me a little sad.

Kate Micucci! I never watched Scrubs but I love her in Garfunkel and Oates!

And yes, Sheldon's assistant picked great gifts. Sheldon is even more obtuse than I am, and that's saying something!

So lets talk about whether Sheldon "needs" a roommate, he rummaged in his pockets and his drawer and came up with "about $2000"

I'm extremely torn on her. She's funny, but I find her quirky to be too much. Or perhaps overplayed? I see her EVERYWHERE.

Overplayed. Hope she turns down the quirky a bit.

Before the Super Bowl, he wasn't. He didn't have PARTS. Quirky Actress has, on several sit cons.

Well, he doesn't NEED a roommate as much as he needs someone to "take care" of him. I think that was established in the episode where Leonard moves in with Penny and Amy moves in with Sheldon. As brilliant as Sheldon is, he can't function in the normal world.

The thing I took away from that scene is that there's no way in hell Sheldon would have cash wadded up in several different pockets and drawers. He'd be as OCD about his money as he is about everything else.

He gets small speaking roles as well.

And outside of Garfunkel and Oates, the only thing I've seen Katie on in the last years or so was Raising Hope so I have no problem with her getting a gig on BBT.

But she has multiple episode arcs in several. Til Death, Scrubs, and Raising Hope, at least.

Two of those shows have been out of production for years and Raising Hope is most likely done after this season.

Reruns? I just saw Til Death a month ago.

The last new episode of Til Death aired in June 2010, so if you saw it a month ago, it was definitely a rerun in syndication.

It is still consistent with his bit to Penny about money not important to him as long as he has "enough". It could be that he "needs" for his housing budget to be at or below a specific percentage of his net income. To live in that place, not having a roommate would double his rent, throwing the ratio of income to housing out of kilter. ( presuming that the rent is 50/50 and not some other odd ratio )

I wouldn't put it past him to try to slough off any rent increases to Leonard to keep his rent amount fixed. Some weasel clause in the roomate agreement like "50% of the current rent, plus any future rent increases" might be there to do it.

It may have been a throw-away line, and I have no idea what episode (the flashback one where Leonard met Sheldon when he was looking for an apartment), he stated that "The rent was quite reasonable".

Plus, Penny is affording an apartment on a Waitress salary/tips. Granted it is a smaller 1 Bedroom verses the guys large 2 bedroom. Unless her dad is helping her out, for 7 years...

No. He is as the writers write him. If he doesn't care about something, it is unimportant to him. It is established he doesn't care about money so it means nothing to him.

Actually I saw a rerun a few days ago where Sheldon loans Penny some money. He stated in that episode that his entire living expenses amounted to 48% of his take home pay.

What makes you think Raising Hope will be cancelled? It's almost a lock for a renewal.

…and the weird thing about 'Til Death is that she joined the show as a regular (replacing the previous actress playing the daughter) a few weeks AFTER she guested as IIRC a waitress.

It looks like women do go to comic book stores in the Big Bang Universe. There were at least two or three in the episode last night.

I never watched Scrubs. Couldn't get into it. But when I discovered "Garfunkel and Oates" last year and fell in love with them I googled and discovered Gooch. Now I'm sorry I missed it.

I'm ok with her in BBT as long as she leaves the ukelele at home.

That's my problem...the few times I've seen her, she's had the exact same persona and quirks. And for me, it works exactly once. She was great on Scrubs, but ever since she has just grated on my nerves every time I've seen her.

Granted, in this episode she didn't actually do anything, so maybe this is different...a geeky hipster cameo done-in-one. But I can't shake the fear that the ukelele is coming...
