The Amazing Race - OAD 3/17/2013

"Phil, we quit"

"I'm sorry to tell you that you've been eliminated from the race."

Seemed kind of an odd way to accept their decision of quitting. Even more so when the rednecks got to the mat last and found out that they weren't eliminated.

They never did come back to the plot point where some of the teams knew that they were going to quit, but didn't tell the others in hopes that they might think that they were still ahead of Dave & Connor. Everyone must have had it figured out and it wasn't important.

I also was hoping that that Phil would say to the girls that they were the 2nd team to arrive....but were team number one.

I don't think he could say that since they didn't do any of the tasks.

I predict they'll have them back in a future race.

Agreed, they deserve another run at the race.

Kind of a lame duck episode knowing that a team was already eliminated and the chance of a 2nd team being booted was slim.

Really did not enjoy the Vietnam promotion of Socialism and Communism but I guess that's part of the reality of reality television. Maybe if they did not decide to run a portion of the song at the end credits I may not have thought more into it but that just rubbed me wrong.

I thought it was kinda silly for the You Tube team to be upset with the guy for saying what everyone who watched last week's show was saying. How stupid to you have to be to get eliminated while holding on to an Express Pass?

They kept running promo's all week that someone would "surprisingly" drop out. Big shocker. I like the guy and his son, but he does cry way too much.

I still like the nasty married couple. It was funny when one of the others said they were nice--I remember them saying that they had to try to pretend to like their opponents.

Do the rednecks have to do a speed bump?

I'd guess not since it sounds like they eliminated the father/son like they came in last even though they really didn't.

I like how dbag told the camera how he was going to boast about eating real Phở in Hanoi compared to the crap back at home and then he doesn't pronounce the dish correctly.

If I were team Youtube I'd have U-Turned the blondes instead of Chuck/Wynona.

I was thinking nearly the same thing. I wasn't thrilled that they chose to use that production/performance as a part of the race, but figured, "Oh well, that's Vietnam, I guess." Then to have the song repeated at the end I did not care for at all! I didn't think they needed to go there.

(And would have expected that more from NBC than CBS, but I guess in the end there's really not much difference, is there?)

I didn't really care about the song at the end... the lyrics were amusing when they were subtitled, but at the end it was just music.

As far as the song goes I don't think Vietnam is as socialist as it used to be. In fact I don't think Ho Chi Minh would approve.

To be honest, I actually found visiting the monument for the shot down b-52 more annoying than the propaganda piece that they did, but that's just me.

I'm with you on this. They could've picked another landmark, specially since there was nothing to do there other than the U-turn.

I was amused that they showed the song at all. Here they are extolling the virtues of socialism when they are very much moving towards Capitalism. It was also an amusing piece of government brain washing, err, propaganda.

However, if I were visiting Vietnam, I would skip the singing.

Everything the YouTube team does/says is kinda silly. They're totally oblivious to how childish their shtick comes across on TV.

Would have been interesting to see if Chuck and Wynona would have still been last if a different team had been U-turned. If the editing was accurate, Team YouTube finished their second task and got to the pit stop before Team Alabama even got to the U-turn.

I thought the ladies at the market were hilarious-I guess no one told them they would potentially get so many customers...paraphrasing, already deleted the ep...
...Look at that westerner selling chickens...
...So many people come to get these same items...
..and just their attitude-they made me laugh.

And the song was a little over the top, but darned if those boys weren't adorable!

I've already gotten selective memory of this episode, but you're right - that was even worse than that song!

That's the best the producers could come up with over there?????

Maybe the producers were among those that protested the Vietnam war and this was their way of sticking the knife in the US just a little more, seeing that the country is thriving under "communism" and has monuments to their military success against the US.

There are some of us that actually served during the Vietnam war that have no problem with this episode of TAR.

And the redneck geniuses thought that the Youtube guys were the ones to U-Turn them, since they only saw that picture. I wonder if that will cause future hilarity.

It will be unfair if they have to do a speed bump.

A large film crew doesn't simply descend on a tightly controlled country like Viet Nam without permission. My guess is that showing the B52 landmark was a requirement if they wanted to film in Hanoi. Notice that the producers really didn't focus on it or do anything there, the racers just picked up the final clue there. Regardless, the war is obviously a very important part of Viet Nam's history and there's nothing wrong with showing a reference to it. When in Rome...

I wondered about that... why did they have 4 screens if they were only going to show the teams that got U-Turned? There was no mention of it being a blind U-Turn...

They did say it was an anonymous U-Turn. At least they told us, not sure if the racers knew, I guess. We also knew it was a double.

Ooops, I missed that! Well still, what's with the 4 screens. I guess maybe they reuse the board later.

Although their reasoning was flawed, their conclusion was correct. It was the YouTubers that U-turned them. And for all we know, their reasoning wasn't flawed at all. Maybe the YouTubers had said something at the propaganda challenge that made it clear they would U-turn Alabama if they got the chance.

I found it ironic that they had this extravaganza extolling Socialism, when I clearly saw a Gucci store sign in the background somewhere.

I think the complaint was that he just wouldn't shut up about it. It is one thing to make a comment about something, and another thing to keep repeating that comment gleefully.
