Question Anyone watch Luther?

Thinking about starting "Luther" via Netflix.

Yeah or Neah?

One of the best cop shows I've ever seen. Idris Elba is so good.

Worth watching. Though it's hardly a big investment of your time to watch considering how short the "seasons" are.

I thought the first season was brilliant, but when I heard what they were doing in the second, I knew the show had already jumped the shark.

Then the second season was brilliant too.

(I refer to
Spoiler:
bringing back Alice.)

a HUGE yeah!

There's only 10 total episodes (6 for season one and 4 for season 2), so not a massive investment.

Season 3 is being made now. Not sure how many episodes, but it's great drama.

Season 3 is supposedly only 4 episodes if I'm remembering correctly.

Season 2 was really only two episodes...two two-hour movies each divided in two for broadcast.

Another thumbs up for Luther, one of the better British imports.
I also really loved Whitechapel which didn't get a lot of love.

Idris Elba pulls off a British accent perfectly, by the way. After first seeing him in The Wire, I was shocked at how well he could do the British accent.

Nah, he sounds pretty phony to me.

Nothing like Alistair Cooke!

4 episodes in for me now...like it alot. Idris Elba is fantastic, and i enjoyed his run in the Wire too.

only drawback for me is trying to understand the dialogue completely with the british accents. but i guess subtitles can fix that. but can't these people just speak english, for cripe sake!

He was really easy to understand in Prometheus. He was also very boring -- completely miscast. I always have subtitles on, what I don't really understand is why Netflix doesn't have a way of "remembering" this preference.

I never had trouble understanding Luther, or most of them, actually. But that other detective... the young guy? I really had to pay attention to him, and still missed some of it. I think he's Scottish, but I'm not sure.

all i could find - Jenny is the daughter of a man he put away. Seems like Luther and the mother had a thing too?

I knew new Luther was coming, but had no idea when. It's like waking up one morning to find out it is Christmas.

I wonder why they (BBC) continues to delay the airing of new shows on BBC America? (Season 3 aired in July on BBC.)

No spoilers, other than we really liked it.

Because BBCA is a totally separate entity from the BBC. They have to buy the programming just like any other foreign channel (ok, maybe not JUST like).

The BBC can decide that it is commercially viable to release a show quickly (Doctor Who, Top Gear, etc.) to reduce piracy or, if it's not thought of as a huge draw, delay the release.

The gap between UK and US airdates is, without a doubt, reducing.
