New Girl - "Eggs" - S02E09 - 11/27/2012

OK, I have to say I'm watching a lot of sitcoms this season for whatever reason, and to me New Girl is the funniest, and running away with it. This episode had me laughing so hard it hurt. Especially the entire "Z is for Zombie" scene at the end was comedy gold. Had to pause to breathe. TiVo saves the day again!

(Full disclosure: due to poor scheduling on the networks' parts and a lack of tuners on my part, combined with a wife and teenage daughter, I don't get to see my favorite from last year, Happy Endings, anymore).

I love Nick Miller. His "Why am I here!?" during the eggs conversation at the beginning was classic.

Weird real life parallel... my wife just got the test that predicts the number and quality of eggs left. For some reason it didn't quite play out like in this episode.

I have to agree. I'd go a bit farther, actually, and say that New Girl is quietly becoming one of the best shows on TV. It's not only a reliable joke factory -- this particular ep was just packed with the funny -- but it's got a strong sense of character underneath. Lesser shows sell out their characters for the jokes, but the humor here comes in the other direction. I really look forward to this show each week.

It's a very tough timeslot for comedy. New Girl, Go On, and Happy Endings all at the same time, and all very good. Luckly, I have three tuners and can record all three. I definitely wouldn't want to give up on Happy Endings. It's been great this season.

I liked how Jess was calling "jar" on both Schmidt and one of the lesbians.

I could watch Zooey Deschanel in anything. She is very pleasant on the eyes, and quite a talented actress.

Watch, yes.. Though I haven't been impressed by her band, in most of the appearances on talk shows I've seen. I think I've kept 1 or 2 performances out of a bunch…. and sometimes I'd keep something like this just out of curiousity (an actor now doing singing??)

She performed as a singer even before she'd become well-known as an actress.

(I like She & Him a lot.)

Schmidt (Schmiddy?) should get his own spin-off show.

Yes, Schmidt's lengthy description, using visual aids, of how he works his bedroom magic, was a real hoot. Loved the effect it had on the obgyn too.

It was funny, if a bit stolen from Friends, so not entirely original.

Friends? I remember the number sequence bit, which was hilarious, but that was nothing like this. Are you referencing something else?

Yeah, that was the scene. It was almost exactly the same the joke. Someone describing how to pleasure a woman causing the woman listening to get excited. The set-up was a bit different, but the joke and punch line were the same.

I immediately thought of the scene from Friends. Even though it was good, I think I'd give the slight edge to Friends if only because Schmidt's terms were so out there (funny).

I think you are forgetting just how the Friends' bit went, in that the person doing the describing excited herself, not the listener. But that's just nit picking on my part. I do like both of them.

BTW, Minnie Driver showing up on Letterman or one of the other late night shows is an example that I think I kept just out of curiousity.

and is proof positive that shows dont need laugh tracks to be ratings hits, just takes good writing and actors
