Why only 13 episodes this season?

The character had promise in season one but the creative direction the show went made the character unredeemable. I'm not sad Pierce will be gone, but I'm sorry it came to that.

Well said. I get the idea Chase would have been unhappy no matter what -- he's been critical of the show overall, not just his character -- but I don't blame him for being dissatisfied with what he has been asked to play the past couple of years.

He should be satisfied as they've actually made him funny.

But it's no surprise that he's leaving.

I don't suppose we could get Dan Harmon back now.

This may end up being much ado about nothing. They only have a limited amount of shows yet to do this season and the odds are incredibly long that they are going to get a season four. So it could end up with him missing only two or three episodes at most.

This all seems a little bizarre. If the show indeed is over after this season, why make so much of a fuss? Why not grit your teeth and finish out the last 2-3 episodes?

I hope they get a new character. Who ever heard of a "Greendale six"?

Yes, that is the weird part. They have only two episodes left to film, and they've already shot the season finale, which Chase is in. We don't know if the show is over or not after this season, but that doesn't even matter for now. As you say, why not just do the last two episodes?

What if they pulled a classic "Bewitched" switcheroo and just substituted someone like Robert Klein to play Pierce? No explanation. Just the new guy in the old role.

I think that they might just be getting ready to cut there costs so that sony can sell one more season of the show to NBC for really cheap and get close to 100 episodes for syndication

I guess I'm in the minority. I liked Chase's character on the show. Now, Chang... I despise what they did to that character.

Ironically, according to Dan Harmon, Chase refused to film a scene that (IMO) would have gone a long way in redeeming Chase's character.

I believe the term you are looking for is "professionalism".
I think that most people would have sucked it up for a couple more weeks.

From some of the quotes he sounds like an entitled jerk. He's just walking away before it gets canceled. Lame. Now he can tell everyone "I told you so".

He also called TV "the lowest form of entertainment". I'm guessing this may be his last job on TV and I haven't seen a lot of offers for leading roles in Movies for him lately either. If he really wants to work, this isn't the way to go about it.

Hmmm, how about getting Bill Murray to fill in? Didn't he replace Chase on SNL?

That was totally different. He was playing a movie character.

I worked location sound on the set of a couple of movies (one short and one low-budget feature) in which Chevy Chase was featured, and got to chat with him a bit. He was always professional, courteous and never had a bad thing to say about anyone.

These weren't big Hollywood blockbusters... he was doing them totally as a favor to the director.

There must have been some serious stress behind the scenes for him to quit.

What's Joe Piscopo doing? They should get him to show that ANYONE could play the part.

They used footage of him from one of his movies (Christmas Vacation). Since he doesn't own the rights to that movie, I'm not sure how much say he had in it being used.

I'm hoping you're kidding.

If you aren't, that wasn't reused footage. He appeared in the commercial and recreated a couple of the basic elements of the scene from the movie. (You didn't notice he looked 20+ years older in the commercial?)

I didn't pay that close of attention. I thought it looked like clips from CV with the Old Navy people superimposed.
