The Big Bang Theory "The Extract Obliteration" OAD 11/1/2012

Lots of good zingers in this episode.

And the bit with the chess clock was priceless.

Right. This was his second 'appearance' - and yes, it was really him according to the credits.

I thought this episode was hilarious. The chess clock scene was really great.

Eh. I guess I wasn't as bowled over as everyone else. Too much Leonard and Penny nonsense.

Yeah. That one.

I'm impressed that Hawking has such a good sense of humor about himself. Their impression of him could strike some the wrong way. But it's awesome that he's okay with it and making these appearances. I kinda hope they have him or his voice on from time to time.

Hawking has a wicked sense of humor. (I saw him when he was touring for A Brief History of Time; he made great geek jokes during his lectures.) It's great that the show gives him a chance to have some fun.

He's not okay with that. He is okay with Rolling Thunder though.

It's not so much about him having a sense of humor, though. It's about him being OK that the show's humor is directed at him. This episode had Wolowitz impersonating Hawking's computerized voice, and then Hawking was described as having a huge ego and being a sore loser. So whether those things are true or not, you'd have to be pretty comfortable to allow yourself to be portrayed that way on a TV show.

I think Hawking has also been on the receiving end of some not very happy domestic situations, too, so it's nice to see he still has happiness.

That is the type of liberty taken with most celebrity guest shots these days. Look at the real celebs on Entourage. Or the bloated ego of Van der Beek on the Bitch in Apt 23.

Not the first time Hawking has been made fun of on BBT either. The impression goes back to the pilot, I believe.

Just watched this last night. The chess clock thing worked for the scene, but the clocks were being used wrong. When it is your turn the button on your side should be up not down, right?

Yes, they did it exactly wrong from a chess standpoint, but I think for the purposes of the comedy, they needed it such that the person wanting to speak needed to slap the button to take over the conversation.

I forgot what this one was about.

Was it about the raging alcoholic negligent bartender blonde female neighbor?
