Red Dwarf fans - NEW series being filmed!!

The rumo(u)rs from earlier this year were true. Red Dwarf X is due to be filmed in December/January.

I'm planning a family visit to the UK at that time and one of the dates is the day I was planning to return, so I can delay by a day if I'm lucky enough to score tickets (I'm on the waiting list) for that date (1/7).

I'm not all that excited, to be honest. I think this is one of those shows that had it's day and time, and now that has passed. This just seems... unnecessary.

As long it is better than the the three part story they aired on Dave a few years ago. That one was bad.

I agree, and how can they possibly have a further series after that?

I never saw it, and I apparently didn't miss anything.

Red Dwarf was one of the two BBC shows that I wouldn't miss "back in the day". Absolutely Fabulous was the other. Thanks for the 'heads up'.

I've watched every Red Dwarf episode and own a couple of vhs and dvd sets. It really declined in quality in the second half of its run and the last special was pretty bad. I don't have much hope for this new series but I'll watch it.

I'm certainly in the same camp as the "not holding out too much hope" crowd. I was a HUGE fan way back when, but also agree that the recent special was a big disappointment.

If I manage to score tickets, I'll be one of the first to be able to decide whether it's worth watching, but I'll be looking in, wearing my "Smoke Me A Kipper" T-shirt!

It was a three-episode special (for lack of a better term for it - it's on DVD and Blu-Ray) from 2009.

Thanks. It would be sweet if it was added to Amazon Prime. That is how I caught up on Torchwood.

The 3 episode special is also available via Netflix downloads.

What do you mean by "score tickets?" Is it a stage play?

The show is filmed before a live studio audience.

Not all seasons, if I recall correctly. Some (later seasons) were laugh-track only.

EDIT: Just saw the linked article... didn't realize you were referencing this new filming.

I actually liked the series throughout its run.

Oh, I thought this was a sci-fi show. I didn't know it was a sci-fi sitcom.

That certainly sets the bar low. I'm not sure it could even conceivably be worse.

I'll hope for something good, but somewhere in the back of my mind I can hear Holly saying "They're dead, Dave."

Sadly, I won't be going to a taping. I had to go ahead and book my flights and I'll be returning on the only recording day I could have attended. I'm still on the waiting list, so if I do get offered tickets, I know enough people who'll be happy to go in my place.

I was really really excited when they made the recent special, and couldn't wait for it to come out on DVD, and then I saw it!!!!

I really want this to work, but I don't hold out much hope.

You can't beat the early days!

Rimmer: Step up to Red Alert!
Kryten: Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb.

.....
Cat: All in all, a 100% successful trip!
Kryten: But, sir, we lost Mr. Rimmer.
Cat: All in all, a 100% successful trip!

Robert Llewellyn (Red Dwarf's Kryten) hosts this program regarding electric cars and other vehicles.

http://www.youtube.com/user/fullychargedshow

He mentions that he's taking a break from the podcast to film Red Dwarf.
However, I see the latest podcast is from Nov 1, 2011 so that may be why the post above this one is more up to date.

I know it's in the can. Sadly, while I was in the UK last month, I was on the waiting list for tickets to see a recording. I got an email 45 minutes before the doors were closing offering me seats, but I was not only back in the US at the time, but anyone I knew who would want to go was more than two hours away! This, I think, was for the fifth (out of six) show - each one was recorded on a separate day, about a week apart.

Lightbulb Big Bang Theory mentions Red Dwarf

Quote from Youtube page...

Quote:
After 5 1/2 series TBBT finally recognise Red Dwarf. Considering Sheldon states "all 61 episodes" leads me to think that someone on the staff knows that only 55 episodes are in the can to date but 6 more are on the way.

No - Eureka is a current series on SyFy. It would be very confusing if the series was called anything besides Red Dwarf.

Reportedly, the new series airs in the UK sometime this fall, and I would guess on BBC America not long after that.
