Longmire Season 1 (Spoilers to Date)

I'm starting a whole season thread because I'd like to see if there are any other Longmire viewers out there.

I gather from the Pilot episode thread that this is a book? Well, I've never read it, kinda interested in it now though.

I'm just loving this show.

Who the **** is Robert Taylor and why have I never seen him before? He is just all kinds of kicked back kick ass.

This show started a little rocky but I'm really enjoying it now.

I'm enjoying it.

Just finished the 8/12 episode "Unfinished Business". My recording cut off at the end where Walt was meeting with detective at the bar. Can anyone tell me what happened next?

It cut off for me too! LOVING this show. It's not flashy but I think that's the charm for me. They show up without high tech gadgetry and manage to solve the case with "good detecting.". I also really like the characters.

There is already a Longmire thread but although labeled "Pilot" there was discussion to at least episode 3.

Despite some of the reservations I had mentioned in that thread, I do like the series and hopes it returns.

You've never seen The Matrix? He was one of the other Agents (Hugo Weaving being the one that gets all the attention), the "only human" guy.

"Only human." "Dodge this."

He was a lot younger then, though...

The wife and I really enjoyed Longmire Season 1, and hope it returns.

There are a series of 8 excellant Longmire novels by Craig Johnson, a former Sheriff of some unknown county of Wyoming. The setting of the novels is fictional Absaroka County, presumably the NE corner of the state where the Absaroka mountain range is. The first book was published in 2005, then one per year after that, #8 being published in 2012.

The characters from the series are all there in the novels, but the TV scripts do not follow the books, except that the Season 1 Finale episode is taken from book #1.

Absaroka County WY is a fictional place.

As far as where Absaroka County would be if it did exist, at least as far as the TV series is concerned it seemed to be quite far from the NE part of the state.

In the pilot, when Walt tells his deputies where he is going to notify next-of-kin, Vic I think makes the comment about how that was "practically Montana" as if they were at the other end of the state. Sheridan County, where author Craig Johnson lives today, is "practically Montana" itself.

On another episode, mention was made of Jackson also being a long drive away. Combined with the Denver sub-plot it seems that they are probably set in the SE corner of the state, not too far from Cheyenne.

In the 8/12 episode the boy was using Cheyenne phone books for target practice - so you're probably right.

Really enjoyed this first season. I keep thinking that Robert Taylor could easily play the role of Raylan Givens in Justified, while Tim Olyphant would make a fine Sheriff Longmire.

...except for a 25-year age difference.

There were 10 episodes total in this short season. If A&EHD is true to past behavior, they will replay the whole series at least twice before they show any new episodes.

The age difference doesn't bother me as much as the personality difference. They're both great at the stoic gunslinger dude thing, but Olyphant has a quirky humor to him that gives an extra dimension to Raylan that I'm just not sure Taylor has in him...

But of course Olyphant would have a little more difficulty convincing us he has a lawyer for a daughter. Then again, he might be THAT GOOD.

I like this show and I really can't wait for it to return! I so hope it returns. Thanks for the info on the books. I might have to read the books especially since the books and show don't cross much.

I gave up on Longmire after the C. Thomas Howell episode but wanted to drop into the thread to see how others thought the season went. I am so glad I did just because of this post. I thought I had never seen him in anything before and it cracks me up he was one of the Agents. I'm going to have to watch The Matrix again just to see him in that role. So different than Longmire!

Holy cow. He didn't age well (or the make up job does a great department.)

I just saw the Matrix again a couple of days ago, and I didn't recognize him.

There's that span around the 40s when a lot of people seem to do a lot of their aging, and I think Matrix and Longmire were on opposite sides of that divide for Taylor.

Gives you something to look forward to...

(And I did say "a lot of people," not "all people"...I'm sure you'll be an exception. Just as I was. )

This is one of the shows that I at least watched by the next day after the first showing. I think all the characters work well together, and I've always been a big Starbuck fan. I like the bartender guy, too. Sorry, I'm too lazy to google, but he's had quite a nice career himself. He played Richie Havens, I know, who died when he was only seventeen when he flipped a coin with Waylon Jennings to "win" his seat on the plane that killed him and Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper.
