Doctor Who has a start date?

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/08/...ailer-says-so/

9/8 in the US for sure; apparently 9/1 in the UK.

I get BBCA HD now so no more Doctor Who torrents for me. At least until I see how much ads and channel bug crap they put on the screen

You are going to miss the extremely loud British lady at the end of each episode trying to get you to watch Doctor Who confidential or Britain's Got Talent, or whatever she is pushing that week.

This. Magical means has been fun but PQ on BBCA is so much better.

The 9/8 date comes from the BBCA ad they've been running, so unless they've changed their mind and want to confuse the people who have already seen the ad with 9/8...

(I'm guessing you meant 9/1 and not 8/1, since even a show about time travel can't do that...)

It's not on 9/1 according to Zap2It and that doesn't go as far forward as 9/8.

Theepisode called The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe starts at 8pm on the 1st.

The dilemma with Doctor Who
Legitimately watch the show with 15 minutes carved out for commercials, or pirate the show and get the full hour ad free.

Looks like 9/1 is the BBC America date.

The BBC-A website says 9/1 9pm eastern.

http://www.bbcamerica.com/doctor-who/

My Tivo guide data has "The Doctor, The Widow, and the Wardrobe" on 9/1 at 8pm, but in a two hour block, which I think has to be wrong.

If you catch the first night's airing, it's the full episode with no cuts.

It doesn't even have to be the first airing of the night. But after those first few airings, then yes, it's horribly chopped up forever after.

Even the Netflix streaming versions seem to be chopped up.

Is it an hour show? I could have sworn it was 45 minutes...

I found this article wiki about how the CBC (Canada) inserts commercials and they have to edit the show to fit in the time slot. They even had to clip a cliff hanger ending wich pissed off some viewers.

I checked a couple of random 6th season episodes, and they were 48 and 42 minutes. So it looks like some of them need to be cut down a fair amount (c. 6 minutes, I'd guess), and some not at all.

I know their season finales tend to be a full hour. But I'm pretty sure most episodes are in the 45-minute range.

On network television, a one-hour show is 20 minutes of commercials, I think. I imagine it's even worse on basic cable. So even the 42-minute episodes are cut a little.

Well, American shows that appear by magic are usually 42 minutes...

I'm now hearing 9/1 also.

9/1 falls on Labor Day weekend. I wonder if BBC America would air the first episode on a holiday weekend? It can't be good for ratings.

For Doctor Who? You underestimate the power of the Time Lord.

It also falls on WorldCon weekend, which means a sizable portion of its audience would be gathered around a small number of TVs/laptops in Chicago...

I wish they'd do us a favor and just clip six minutes off whatever crap show they broadcast right after DW.
