Other external drives?

Are there any drives other than the WD Expanders which will work with TiVo?

The Tivo expander drives are the only supported external drives that are Plug-N-Play. Others you have to remove the internal Tivo drive and hook up with the external and use WinMFS's MFSAdd.

Keep in mind that if either drive fails, you will lose recordings that were stored since the addition of the external.

I guess as of now, only Western Digital offers a comprehensive dvr expander for your Tivo. It features

• eSATA cable
• AC adapter
• Quick Install Guide

You can store upto 1TB of contents.

The TiVo has onboard in the TiVo software somewhere a list of Western Digital drive model numbers, a very short list, and the actual model number of the actual drive inside your external eSATA enclosure has to be on that list, 'cause the TiVo knows how to ask the actual drive what its actual model number is.
