Bent - New Show on NBC - any takers?

I'm torn whether to give those one a shot.

NY Times gave it a pretty good review:

http://tv.nytimes.com/2012/03/21/art...er=rss&emc=rss

And I like Amanda Peet.

But I just can't stand JB Smoothe and that might be enough to skip the show.

What do you do when a show looks like it might be good but has an actor/actress you don't like?

I'm going to check it out. I listen to Alan Sepinwall's weekly podcast, and he said he enjoyed it. I generally trust his taste in TV shows.

Unfortunately, it's only six episodes, and NBC is doubling them up, so they will air two episodes per week for three weeks. That tells me that NBC isn't expecting anything from the show and just burning it off.

I'm going to give it a shot. It's a half-hour, so won't be taking up too much space if I don't get to it right away. I usually give comedies a shot just for the heck of it.

EW said it was good so did TVline but both don't know why NBC is dumping it like they are.

I'm passing because the previews look horrible.

Of course, this time of year, I'm reluctant to add new shows because I already have a full plate.

And my plate is almost empty. The reviews seem positive and I have almost nothing backlogged now, so I'm gonna give it a shot.

Modern Family and The Middle are repeats tonight so I'll give it a look. Although it does look like NBC is just burning off the episodes that are in the can.

Love Amanda Peet, liked David Walton in that short lived series from a year or two ago. I'll try almost any sitcom.

One reviewer (Mo?) said the first ep or two was kinda rough, by the time she got to the end she was really enjoying it.

Interesting.
I didn't realize this was a Tad Quill show so I may record it "just in case", in spite of the awful previews.
(NBC previews have really sucked this year.)

But I strongly suspect that it will get pummeled by American Idol ratings wise.

You know, I almost took a pass on Community because Chevy Chase was in it.
Good thing I didn't.

It's 30 minutes, not much of a commitment there if ya don't like ( well I guess 1 hour, since 2 episodes air each Wednesday)

What's with all the reruns? Normally my Wednesday night schedule wouldn't even allow me to record this, but I have nothing recording at 8 pm.

EDIT: Ok watched 1st episode, wasn't the worst thing I've ever seen, but if schedule gets crowded, it's history.

The pilot didn't blow me away either. I'm not seeing much reason to invest any more time in it.

Screwsie... who is she? A sister or what? I missed something there I guess for her introduction.

Is it supposed to be funny? I'm reacting to this the same way I reacted to Enlightened, which is, I don't know how to react. It doesn't have a laugh track, but it's not funny enough to make me laugh on my own. Yet in the US, they don't make half-hour dramas. Am I alone here?

The 2nd episode was better.

I'll continue to watch. Only 4 more episodes. I liked the male lead (from Perfect Couples). Didn't like Amanda Peet too much, but maybe she'll grow on me.

The guy kept making me think of a younger Warren Beatty.

How many seasons do they think they could milk the kitchen remodel? It would be like the unfinished bedroom on Green Acres.

That's what my wife asked me after the firt episode, when neither of us laughed even once. I gave it a shot, but no SP for this series.

According to IMDB, it's only six episodes, and Amanda Peet is only in three of them! I guess it's not worth investing my time, even if it is only three hours (two if I skip the commercials).

I liked it. I thought there was great chemistry between the leads. The dialogue was relatively entertaining, even funny in a couple spots. I much prefer this kind of sitcom where the situations are more realistic and the laughs are organic, rather than the traditional setup-joke, setup-joke format.

Nielsen Overnights (18-49)
NBC's 'Bent' bombs in Wednesday night bow
New sitcom averages a 1.0 in 18-49s in its first episode
By Toni Fitzgerald, Media Life Magazine - Mar. 22, 2012

NBC's new comedy "Bent" had a rough first night.

The show bowed to disastrously low ratings, becoming the lowest-rated new scripted series this season.

"Bent" averaged a 1.0 in adults 18-49 in its first episode at 9 p.m., according to Nielsen overnights, and a 0.9 for the second episode, which aired at 9:30.

No surprise. Based on the way it was scheduled and marketed, NBC pretty clearly signaled that they didn't have any expectations for it and didn't expect it to do well. How are viewers supposed to have any desire to check out a new show if it's clear that show isn't going to be supported by its own network?

With ratings like that I wonder if the show will even last six episodes.
I wasn't too thrilled with the first episode. I'll watch the second one tonight since a basketball game means no Big Bang Theory and there's no Office either. There are two episodes of 30 Rock.

Remember the painter working on Murphy Brown's house? That stretched throughout the series.

I don't like many child actors (really not liking the boy on Once Upon a Time, as well as most of the rest of the cast as well as the writers), but I like the girl playing Amanda Peet's daughter. I hope she has a good career.

Not sure what to think of this show, but I can easily last for the next four episodes.

Similarly, I hadn't heard about the show until I saw it pop up in Viggle. I watched for the points. Wish I hadn't.

I enjoyed both of the first two episodes but I knew going in that it was not going to last long term and hadn't seen anything that resembled a promotion for it so really didn't expect anyone would find it and watch it.

If more episodes air great, if not, oh well.
