Margaret was cute at first with her quirks, but how quickly things have changed. I don't see the appeal that Jim sees in her to warrant such a blow up they had.

To me this episode was only so-so. The main reason being that I hate the way the romantic involvements are being shown. The young blond that is still going with the producer from before - she obvously really wants to be with the new younger producer that just started and that's why she was making all those comments at that meeting. But would any rational person really do that at a meeting. And the lead guy and his dating is just pathetic. On the first meeting and/or date he procedes to tell his date what is wrong with them and he expects them to instantly thank him for his insight and that they would certainly change who they are to please him. Ridiculous!!
If you take away all that nonsense then the rest of the episode wasn't too bad.

I've never been a fan of soapy TV unless accompanied by compelling circumstances. The individual character quirks are developing too quickly in "The Newsroom", for my taste. I prefer to be presented with a situation and then have people react to it. Over time, I may become interested in their individual lives.
"The Walking Dead" , "Law & Order XXX", and "True Blood" are examples of shows that "did it right", IMO. Some of the characters in those shows are boring but I tolerate them because of my interest in the situation.

Interesting... my wife and I are really struggling to stay engaged with True Blood lately because the situations seem contrived and uninteresting. At least the news is usually interesting... sort of.

Near the end when Will is on the set during a 30-second break and he calls Sam Waterston in and says (paraphrasing, except for the bolded part) "tell Jane Fonda that if she wants a piece of me she had better come at me with more than a couple of gossip columns."
That immediately sounded really familiar to me. It took me a couple of minutes of thinking, but then it hit me... it's the climactic speech by Michael Douglas as President Sheperd in The American President: "and if you want to talk about character, Bob, you'd better come at me with more than a burning flag and a membership card"

Well, to be fair, a lot of time has passed on the show in just the few episodes we've seen. The oil spill in the Gulf was April 2010, and the Giffords shooting was January 2011. We haven't spent as much time with these characters as they characters have spent with each other, so to speak. I'm not saying this is good or bad, dramatically speaking. I'm pointing out that from the perspective of the characters, their "quirks" have developed over a longer period of time.

Totally agree with TAsunder. After struggling to stay interested all last season and through four eps this season, my wife and I have finally dropped True Blood from our lineup.

This is kind of a problem with this show. Significant "time" has passed between episodes, yet I don't get that feeling from the characters. Seems like what happened in E2 could have happened a few days after E1 and same with E3 and E2. There is just TOO much time between them and not enough explaining what happened between the time.

Well, my wife is the serious True Blood fan. In our house being married ensures my "ability" ("opportunity"?) to appreciate True Blood.
She assures me it's the whole show, not just that she wants to spend an hour watching Eric run around, mostly without his shirt on
