Once Upon a Time - S2E12 - "In the Name of the Brother" - OAD 1/20/2013

I just got caught up... and there's no threads for the past couple of weeks?

Barbara Hershey is a GREAT actress... I am completely buying her reunion story, even though I know it won't work.

Henry opened a Sam's-Club-sized can o' worms with his revelation that Dr Frankenstein isn't in the story book, so who knows WHO could be in the town?!

I'm trying to figure out where this season is headed. We now have all of the known major players in Storybrooke. But Rumpel and Emma are headed to DCish (maybe Pennsylvania?), though the Cora and Regina Reunion Sobfest may put the kibosh on that.

I think we're going to end up back in Fairytale land for at least a season. Its going to be interesting to see what happens with the guy in the hospital after the phone call.

That was a lot of buildup for no substance. He didn't say what he saw, so it could be anything: magic, a guy with a silver hook hand, a city limits sign that didn't exist before, etc etc. Was there more magic than Rumpel waving his hand over Belle's shoulder? Yeah, THAT really looks like magic!

So was Frankenstein's monster calling his "Bride" on his cell phone? Was she identified in his caller id as "her"?

I think the "her" was Jennifer Love Hewitt. (Reference to late 90s movie the actor was in)

Who's going to believe him? He was a nameless bass player in a one-hit-wonder band.

Yeah. Rumpel had a fireball in his hand that he was about to throw at Hook. That's probably what the guy saw.

I noticed that the guy in the hospital had a Star Wars ringtone. Gonna bring in Disney's newly acquired characters next?

Question: Had we ever learned, before the last few episodes, that outsiders couldn't enter Storybrooke before the spell was broken? I knew that Storybrookians couldn't leave, but don't recall them ever mentioning the opposite.

Note that I have no problem with the show runners adding new world-building detail, I'm just curious if it's actually that or if I just have a bad memory.

I dont want to think about that because it raises too many plot holes. Like how has the queen been driving around on the same tank of gas for 27 years or where is the food coming from, electricity, etc....

Although for most of those 27 years (i.e., until Emma showed up), time didn't pass...

Thats true (And Im seriously not trying to start some crazy debate) but they still had to eat and have consumables. No one took a crap for 27 years? Or did they have a stockpile of 27 years with of TP?

Like I said, I try not to think about it

Except for them, it wasn't 27 years (which is why Emma is the same age as her parents). Time didn't pass in Storybrooke, until Emma arrived.

Which doesn't explain Henry, but as you say, let's try not to think about THAT too much!

That one's "explainable". Time didn't pass for Storybrooksters under the curse: Henry wasn't under the curse.

David's fake wife under the curse corresponded with a school in Boston... electrons can get in and out but people can't? Maybe they aren't under the curse.

And earlier this season, why was Pongo a dog instead of a person? Shouldn't he have been transformed like Jiminy Cricket and Magic Mirror?

But it doesn't explain how Henry grew from a baby to a boy while he was in Storybrooke and time was standing still for everybody else...

It just doesn't make sense, and I'm not entirely sure if it was meant to (i.e., whether they screwed up, or whether it just didn't matter, what with all the magic and stuff).

They used baby wipes and kept them in ziploc bags.

But he aged ten years while nobody else was aging at all.

Maybe that's how the series ends...they're all sitting around, trying to make it all fit together, and finally one of them says, "Hey! None of this makes ANY sense!"

And then they all poof out of existence.

The post to answered proposed the theory that it was because he was not under the curse and that is why he aged.

So time passed for him, but not for the people he was living with? How does that work?

Maybe it would make him a great basketball player. He could run all around the other players who would just be standing still. Or would it be the other way around?

It must have been weird when he moved from grade to grade in school and everyone else just stayed where they were.

Which, as always, brings us back to Moo-Fu's "I try not to think about it."

Magic?

Look. Time stood still yet they talked and moved and ate, etc.

The show is about magic.

The idea that he was not under the curse, so he aged is good enough internal logic for me.
