Veep- New HBO show

Veep Season 1: Trailer #1
You need to upgrade your Flash Player

Glad to see Julia Louis-Dreyfus back on TV again! I'm not impressed by the trailer but I'm going to watch anyway. Also stars Tony Hale and Anna Chlumsky.

"The President is on the phone."

It would be funny if the ongoing gag was she never meets the President, sorta like what they had planned for The West Wing.

Filmed in DC & Baltimore this past fall. I was on one set at Camden Yards for a couple of hours trying to get work. Never worked out.

Didn't love the trailer either.

I do too. I found that show to be consistently funny. It was cancelled too soon.

I did not start really watching it until it had been cancelled but it was a great show. Really looking forward to this. I think Kari lizer , who created tnaooc, has a couple of shows in development and Hamish Linklater is cast in a fox drama pilot in a supporting role.

The reason I think it got canceled is CBS has a policy of canceling their lowest rated sitcom every year. Even if the ratings of that show are good, they cancel the lowest one to make room for new blood.

It is unfortunate because I think it could have had a couple more strong years. I rarely watch any shows more than once but I recorded the reruns on lifetime for a while and had to see all the episodes they ran four or five times or more.

Were the ratings worse than that David Spade show? I am always amazed that show is still on. I can never remember the name of it and I have never seen even a second of a single episode.

Rules of engagement. I think for that last season they were a bit lower.

If you've never seen a single second of it, then why are you amazed it's still on?

The preview I saw for it didn't look so hot. I'm still going to watch it though. Hoping they can make a better show than commercial for the show.

I, too, miss Old Christine. I thought it was a good sitcom and was surprised when it met its demise. Were we the only ones watching?

Just the lack of publicity. I don't even know anyone that has ever watched it (or at least talked about it) and every season when it's renewed I have to remind myself of what it is. I can't even recall any threads about it on this site and I can't say that for many primetime shows.

To me rules of engagement is a show that struggled early on... Probably not until the second season did it become consistently funny. It has never been hilarious but it is comfort comedy. I have watched pretty much every episode since it found itself.

It is likely going to be competing with Rob for a renewal and I think it is a better show than Rob. That being said it is not as good as Christine

I don't have HBO so I won't be watching Veep.

I do however really like Christine & Rules of Engagement. They are both consistently funny comedies.

I agree it doesn't get much publicity (other than the occasional "tonight on CBS" ditties), but that coupled with the fact that it's still on should indicate that it must have a faithful following for a reason and you should try it.

I am not going to bring any spoilers into it.
But I have to say I am still loving this show.
I laugh out loud and it is truly the best 1/2 hour of television for me right now.
Hope it lasts!
JL-D looks like she is having a great time making the show.
Actually they all do...I think it shows when performers are enjoying themselves.

Interesting. Well, I hope that if they are in competition for renewal that Rules of Engagement wins out. I agree that it's not hilarious (although some of the Timmy bits have me laughing pretty hard) but it's a decent sitcom and, while some of the characters are repugnant, I find them funny.

'Rob' was ok (maybe mostly because I'm an old Cheech fan), but I'd rather keep RoE for sure.

She told Dave that we'll never see the president or know what party they are.

Subject to change with ratings and new cast, I bet.

It's good enough to stick with.

There doesn't seem to be enough interest/discussion to have individual episode threads, so should we just discuss in this main thread?

I'll spoilerize in case it is an issue.

Episode 1.06 : Baseball

Spoiler:

Gary trying to prove he was masculine to his dad cracked me up. Throwing out all the slang, and then the picture of him with the team at the end made me LOL.

Can't help but think of Seinfeld with the lip-reader.

When she was singing to the kids and Gary told her she was very pregnant, I am guessing that was a reference to when Bush was told about the attacks in NY?

Crap. I have to spoilerize stuff? Normally, this show cracks my childish ass up but...
Spoiler:
I thought the baseball episode was pretty stupid. The very fact that they're talking about the Veep's possible pregnancy during the work day was silly. Repugnant and pregnant share the same last syllable but I have a hard time believing they'd be confused. And why was it up to the Veep's staff to entertain the kids?
