Tivo and Cox OnDemand

Hi-

Back in August, Cox and Tivo announced

TiVo and Cox partner to offer Cox On DEMAND service to subscribers with a TiVoŽ Premiere box

http://blog.tivo.com/2010/08/tivo-an...-premiere-box/

Has anything come of this? Any updates?

Thanks.

You should check out a conversation CNET's Rafe Needleman had with TiVo's VP of product development Jim Denney at http://chkpt.zdnet.com/chkpt/1pcast....ble_110510.mp3 . In it Denney says the Cox deal won't fully go into effect until 2011, at which point they will even support VOD through Premiere (TiVo has apparently been working with cable providers who want to get around the limitations of cablecard via a proprietary internet "back channel" -- I guess Tru2way is dead). I talked with Cox yesterday, currently they will do TiVo cablecard installations for a $50 service fee, plus $4 per month for a multi-stream cablecard that gets you the two tuners. I don't know if it will be upgraded to the full Cox offering next year with VOD support.

thanks. I'll listen to it!

I have an email from Cox saying that the CableCards are: $2.13. Odd price.

There was another TiVo/Cox partnership announced after the Comcast/TiVo partnership a few years back that never amounted to anything, so I wouldn't be too surprised if nothing materializes here either. It's almost like DirecTV, Cox, Comcast etc. are basically just "partnering" with TiVo to avoid lawsuits more than anything else. Nothing much has come out of any of the partnerships so far in last few years.
