Megastunts Highwire Over Niagara Falls - Live

Friday, June 15, 9/8c ABC

Daredevil Nik Wallenda will cross Horseshoe Falls, the largest of the falls that make up Niagara Falls, on a tightrope. It will be at night, in the dark, with lots of mist.

I have always enjoyed live daredevil events so I am looking forward to this.

Nik's great-grandfather died when he fell from a tightrope.

Given I was a teenager when I saw that happen, I have no problem with a harness. Seeing that cured me of any need to see people take stupid chances. I can enjoy the amazing feat of crossing, even if he will not die if he falls.

I got so nervous watching the live feed from the Iraq war. I am glad he has a harness. I really don't want to witness someone's death on TV.

There are rumors suggesting that he might ditch the harness once he starts. Not sure I think that will happen. He probably wouldn't get paid if he did that.

I just heard that he has been told that if he drops his harness they will turn the cameras away.

He needs to do it without a harness, in the nude, blindfolded, on a wire dripping with grease fat. And he needs to make the return trip while walking on his hands.

Otherwise, he's not a REAL man, like Chuck Norris.

If he does it with a harness he isn't a real Wallenda.

Won't the weight of a harness affect his balance?

I doubt he'd consent to having them cut off his hands and strap them to his feet for the return trip.

They hold the giant helium balloons.

"If he falls he will bring shame to his family." Because he will escape without injury or death, I suppose.

I don't wish to see a man fall to his death, but the safety harness has bled all of the excitement from the event. That still leaves spectacle, though. Pretty awesome shots.

I can't believe he is to carrying on a conversation with the TV hosts. He sounds completely calm.

Face it - there is *zero* chance that ABC would broadcast this if there was the chance of the viewing audience seeing a man fall to his death. It was safety harness or no broadcast, period.

I agree with others about the harness. Not so death defying. The only drama that can be created is whether he will make it or not.
From the looks of it, so far ho-hum.
If he is a true showman, at some point he will "fake" a slip.

Ha! They (his crew, I think) were talking to him about the harness, and he said something to the effect of "I feel like a jack off, er jack ass with this thing".

Not very dramatic with the safety line. No tension whatsoever.

Weren't Evel and Robbie Kneivel's stunts broadcast live?

If he were to fall, it wouldn't be gruesome or anything, he would just disappear into the water.

I'm not nearly old enough to know about Evel... and don't know about ever seeing Robbie Knievel on TV.

As far as being gruesome, no... but there would be so many complaints from viewers who just watched a man die in front of them.

I remember watching Evel Kneivel's Snake River Canyon jump on live TV, but it in the days of World of Sports a lot of what appeared to be live was tape delayed, it seems.

So, for those of you who watched this, was it worth it? The pre-show and all the hours of broadcasting devoted to this event?

I suppose the French "spiderman" guy who scales buildings without media blitzing will never get signed on for a special on American TV because he's, well, French. ??

I enjoyed this more than anything I could've watched at that hour. Fridays in summer are a wasteland on TV.

The guy who jumped his motorcycle up onto the roof of a building and then off again was to me the most amazing stunt.
