Major Crimes (Season 4)

Just wanted to start this and see if anyone else follows this show. The writers on this show are the best. The characters are great. Once in a while its preachy but what show today isn't?

I've been looking for episode threads but evidently there's not enough interest this year. Maybe after Rusty goes off to school.

I'm still watching. Yes - one can only hope Rusty will go off to college soon - his sub-plots are a bore. Other than that - still like it!

I sometimes think the only reason to watch this is the off chance that Rusty might die.

While we enjoy the show, there can be little doubt that Rusty is one of the least likable characters on tv (along with that young actress in the at&t commercials).

So what is wrong with Milana Vayntrub?

Last Monday we missed the epidode...S4 Episode 13, as it had Major Crimes in the guide but that was not what we got here on the west coast. I believe there is a rerun next Monday, before the new show on TNTHD.

Absolutely.

I just don't understand how the folks behind that show don't realize that nobody likes that character and he's been bringing the show down

What I find interesting is that when Rusty was a homeless hooker with a serial killer after him during The Closer series finale episodes, I LOVED the character.

I hated him the first time he appeared on screen.

Easily trumped by the Toyota lady. She's so annoying, I would avoid buying a Toyota out of principal. Of course I'm not in the market for a car, so it's a very easy statement to make.

I suppose Rusty calling his new mom "sharon" is supposed to show some kind of maturity but it seems jarring to me. She took him out of the gutter, he could say Thanks Mom once in a while.

And I cringe every time he's in the episode!

I have to agree, Rusty is the down fall of the show. We actually stopped watching it for awhile because of him. What he does in the show makes no sense. It's as if he is the son of one of the producers and he gets a free ride.

Funny that just after I complained about Rusty calling his mom "Sharon", this past episode saw him change and call her mom. How about that.

There is nothing at all unusual about children who are adopted later in life calling their adoptive parents by their first names - at least for a while.

He's called her both Mom and Sharon throughout since he was adopted.

Funny that we all feel the same about Rusty yet he continues to have screen time. Is the actor related to someone influential?

Geeze, can't we get rid of Rusty? I see no value added to any of the story!

I think Rusty's purpose initially was to provide the crossover between The Closer and Major Crimes AND to humanize Sharon and give her a homelife.

Now he's just the B-sub-plot story character that no one cares about.

Did I miss when he became gay? (or started dating that dead girl's brother? - when they kissed in the most recent episode I was like what? wait!!! huh?)

I sometimes think the only thing that keeps me coming back to this from time to time is the hope that I will see Rusty killed in a horrible way by a serial killer.

That doesn't make any sense---he's one of the few characters on Major Crimes who was not a regular on The Closer...

He's always been gay. Long before Rusty was ready to admit it, all the other characters had realized it (with various degrees of discomfort). IIRC, their regular ME is also gay.

I think while on The Closer it started with Rusty getting arrested for having sex with strangers for money.

I don't think so. I don't remember him getting arrested. He was a witness to a murder (or the murderer taking care of the body after a murder, I don't remember exactly) and Major Crimes brought him in to help catch the murderer.

The murder Rusty witnesses is in the final episode of "The Closer". In that episode they use Rusty as bait to capture Stroh. Brenda had promised Rusty that she would find his Mother, a task that is taken over by Sharon.

So in a way his character was part of the bridge between the two shows.

I didn't say he was a regular. But his involvement in Brenda's finale was pretty captivating, so to have him carry over into Major Crimes - - - I think the intent was to bridge the gap...
