Stupid question... TiVo badge...

Hi people,

I have a stupid question... that TiVo logo on the front panel... It has peeled off. What glue or something else can I use? I tried one - with no effect.

Thank you!

It's not a stupid question, but it certainly is an unusual one. I think a plain old contact cement would be your best choice. A 3oz bottle can be had for under $5 at a hardware store, and you can use it for a ton of other purposes. Paint the badge, and then paint the TiVo case where the badge will sit. Allow the adhesive to dry for about 5 minutes, and then carefully press the badge onto the front of the TiVo. If there is a little bit of cement showing outside the badge, careful application of an Xacto knife can remove the excess glue.

Amen. The TiVo logo is part of the overall look of the device and its absence will probably look like the box is damaged. Hey, I've paid for the TiVo, and I expect the TiVo logo badge to be there for me and visitors to know what box it is and TiVo is in the house, and they aint dealing with no cablecrap DVR.

The reason it won't stick may be that the old adhesive was not cleaned off first. I suggest using either Mineral Spirits or alcohol (denatured is best) to clean off the old stuff. Don't just dip it in the solvent because that may damage the image on the front. Instead, use a rag with a little solvent on it and wipe/rub the back of the logo to clean it. One other method I've use to remove sticky stuff from objects is to use some sticky tape (like masking tape). Apply it to the sticky surface and rip it off. Many times the old stuff will stick to the tape and come off with it.

You've got a Series 2 TCD540xxx "nightlight" TiVo, don't you?

There should have been a class action suit over the TiVo guy falling off of that model.

Those may work well. Goo-Gone works very well on a fairly wide range of adhesives, too.
