American Idol Top 6 Results - OAD 4/19/12

And once again - fricken' Hollie dodges a bullet.

WHY CAN'T SHE JUST GO AWAY!!!

Oh well, at least she wears cute outfits and tonight was no exception. She can't sing great, but she does have good fashion sense.

As for Colton, I have been meh about him all season, and he really stank it up last night, so it wasn't shocking. I really am surprised that Elise didn't go home, but she is much better than Colton IMO.

I think now that Colton is gone, all his votes will swing to Phillip. He is almost guaranteed a spot in the final. It will be interesting to see who will be standing next to him...

There were actually 7 contestants again and not 6.

I think the nyny523/Hollie conundrum is one of those situations where the listener's middle ear and the singer's unique frequency combine to form an auditory incongruity.
Either that or nyny23 is experiencing paracusia, as I don't find Hollie to be egregiously discordant at all.

Yeah, I'm in a weird mood- whatsit to ya?

I don't hear it at all, and I'm generally sensitive to people out of tune.

I'm actually enjoying Hollie now. She always had nice a clean voice, and she finally shook off the stage fright that made her look like a robot. She's definitely in tune.

But I wanted to see more of Colton.

I like Hollie too, and Colton annoyed me no end. He really was the worst Wednesday and deserved to go. I didn't think he would, but maybe all the teeny girls were doing homework and not voting.

Well at least that just ensured P2 to the finale!

I only care about Phillip and Elise. Since she's always on the chopping block I'm just as happy to see Colton go.

Undoubtedly! But if he wins, Idol really has to look at the voting process- this many white guys with guitars in a row is a clear pattern that no one can ignore.
And I'm one that likes Joshua but think they are trying too hard with him and his minority- he now has six standing ovations in a row. That's absurd.
Elise is now reminding me of Syesha way back in season 7- she just kept hanging on and hanging on.
I'm hoping Skylar can sneak into the final three- I think we have more girls left at this point than we have in a long while.

Who does that leave- Hollie whom I like far more than Jessica, and Jessica.
Hmmm... gonna be interesting!

Queen next week as mentors then we get our first look at the Queen Extravaganza tribute band on results night... fun!

He was ok. Kris is the poster boy for the cute white male advantage. He never should have won that year.

I think Colton's religious voting block turned on him for singing Lady Gaga. Fundamental Christians are very anti-Gaga. That's what got him booted. He knew it and that is what he was apologizing for. That's also why he fell on his knees and sang what he calls his worship song.

Did anyone else see all of the other contestants start going to him for hugs and such then have to turn around when he fell on his knees?

Glad Hollie is still around.

Colton wasn't the worst of the bunch but he wasn't going to win IMO so it's not a big loss.

Elise is the one that needs to go next. Then Joshua.

I didn't like Jessica's singing much this week and I guess she should have already been gone but overall, her other performances have been pretty good. SO, a final three of Hollie, PP, and Jessica would be OK w/me.

And like others have said, most of Coltons voters will hopefully shift to PP enough to get him into the final two.

My Thoughts - From the duplicated thread I took too long to type up.

-I wondered in the performance thread if this was the week Phillip or Colton landed in the bottom 3. I was right about that but I never expected one of them to actually be voted off.

-This is a huge boon to Phillip. If there is an army of teenage girls out there voting he is no longer splitting votes with Colton.

- I had a feeling Jessica would be safe after almost being eliminated. Those who get saved seem to ride that save for a week or two.

- Jimmy and I are in complete agreement on Elise. She needs to be rocking out and building on the audience that loved her Led Zepplin performance.

- I still don't understand the love for Joshua

- I imagine Ninny is banging her head against a wall knowing she has to watch Hollie again next week. But I think Hollie earned it last night.

- I think Jimmy might be on to one of the issues with Jessica. She is only 16 but both Hollie and Skylar (both 18) have more youthful enthusiasm.

- I honestly believe Skylar is the front runner now.

I adore Hollie. Her voice is very pleasant and she is just a little sprite.
There is nothing to dislike about her. She is pocket-sized!

...and she's a Brit! We ALL know Brits are best

Seriously, though. I'm sure this means a bigger bite at the record sales cherry as I'm sure it's being promoted like heck in the UK, which opens up Europe too.

I don't think Hollie has a chance of winning, but I kinda like her (sorry, Sheryl) and agree that she's not out of tune most of the time.

Colton really screwed the pooch with September and deserved to go for just that. Still, a class act when he WAS booted. Kudos to him for that.

How do you all feel about Colton entering the competition randomly like he did?

Maybe that's part of why I haven't ever liked him much. I know, it's a singing competition and that's what really matters but I can't help thinking about it. I'm sure his sister was supportive in the end but that had to kinda tick her off at least a little bit.

I mean, if you went along with a sibling to a job interview/movie casting/whatever and the people in charge wanted you to try out, woudl you? I just couldn't do it knowing I went along with someone else just for support.

Just a random question on a slow work day.

Queen week should be interesting next week. Curious to see what songs people choose. I think it may push some of them to their limits.

All I am hoping is that Phillip doesn't completely change an arrangement. He doesn't have the range to sing many Queen songs as written but I don't know how well it would go over to change them too much.

I was talking about this with my boss this morning. I think the fact that they pulled her from the audience and reminded everyone that he wasn't even intending to audition in the first place, topped with his comments of "I don't care" after his performance and the fact that he was not great at all this week and then even more topped by him singing Gaga all combined to turn his voters against him.

It's not a new story- David Cook went to his audition to help bolster his brother's confidence to try out.
Kris Allen went on a whim as part of a boys road trip.
Probably many more, that's just off the top of my head.
They are casting a TV show and use whomever fits the spot they want to fill.

I hadn't heard of David Cooks story. So he didn't sign up to audition?
Kris Allen signed up to audition.

What Colton did was, as far as I know, different. But maybe it was all "planned" behind the scenes and I wouldn't doubt that he was in on it as well as his sister.

Now you're catching on ...
Nobody just stumbles in and the real auditions are far different than what is portrayed on the air.
